Best shoes doing a flare-up?

I have several painful toe joints and my Clark sandals are not cutting it...what do you like to wear when your toes and feet are hurting?

What I’ve been wearing since last summer: Klogs USA. Lots of toe room so the painful piggies don’t get sore.

I like to wear crocs

I, like Seenie, wear Klogs USA almost all the time. For sandals I like Naot. I wear crocs with the memory foam foot bed in the garden or walking the dogs. For dress up I wear Naot and Gentle Souls. I love shoes.

Do you find that some of the Klogs work well with orthotics? That's my issue with the Crocs, can't wear the orthotics in them.

No they have an anatomical memory foam foot bed in them that is not removable. I find I do not need an orthotic with them.

Okay. Good to know.

Hadn’t heard of Red Dog shoes, so I googled them. Yes, lots of room for toes and the velcro closing looks very convenient. And you get two pairs for one price! Cool! ROFL

Red dog makes a shoe that has wider toes and they are velcro. I just slip them on and my orthotics work great in them.

Can you send a link for red dog? I can't seem to find them.

My sheepskin slippers!?!

Oh wait, you wanted to LEAVE THE HOUSE? LOL

Ok, I swear by my LL Bean comfort mocs when it's bad. Cushy yet supportive in the middle, letting my toes range free.

I used to be a massive Dansko fan (10 years!) until my tendons started flaring whenever I wore mine.

I have toe damage - I use DREW shoes, big toe box and alot of cushion for the hurting nerves.

Great answers so far! I have found my trusty Birkenstocks helpful as they let more weight rest on my arch and off of my ball of my foot which is flaring now. Also wide toe box. Just ordered Birkie sandals for the summer. Yay!

Slippers. Last week, I had such painful, swollen tootsies that I ended up grabbing a pair of the no-skid socks from the supply closet and wearing those all afternoon! Talk about classy!

Has anyone every tried naturalizers shoes?

I swear by five fingers and skeletoes. They make my feet happy for the most part. I did get the new ones with the "tennis shoe sole" and I think that is the reason for the major flare in my ankles and feet. I am going to go back to the ol' stinky feet ones that my feet were happiest in for a couple of weeks and see if that relieves the symptoms. I quit wearing them due to chronic "five finger stank" but at this point I would much rather be stinky and in NO pain that be in the amount of pain I am in now. I will give you an update on the results. But seriously the skeletoes have made my feet the happiest they have been in a long long time. I also do crocs but the newer ones are not as squishy as the ones that I got oh about 7 years ago and those are really starting to show their age! I also wear Keen Briggs II durring the winter but the skeletoes were even more comfy than the keens...

I love Wolky shoes. My feet are such a horrible mess and they seem to work the best for me. I have the Jewel sandals. They come in a lot of great colors. I also have the closed toe shoes in the Passion. They are expensive, but I have wasted so much money trying to find shoes that don’t kill me feet. I have a bunch of Clarks and Merrells that I have barely worn. I bought my first pair through Foot Solutions and now that I know what size I need , I order them through Online Shoes, they have good deals from time to time. As my granddaughters like to say when they are trying to tease me (they are five and seven), My Feeeet Huurrtt !!

Interestingly a friend who has Lupus and has some arthritis symptoms (I suspect RA as well, she's in process of dx) says her FiveFingers help with toe drift. She said it is like wearing splints all day helping keep her toes straighter.

I go barefoot or with socks 80% of the time, I tried FiveFingers but found on concrete I need more cushioning. If I was working or had to wear shoes all day I think I would have to wear them.

Do you like the FiveFingers or Skeletoes better? I've heard things about both, but have never tried the Skeletoes.

Hi Sorry it has taken so long for a reply. I have have been teaching all week. Anyway I haven't tried the five fingers because I have such a little nub of a pinky toe that they would not work well for me however a friend with PSA has them and loves them. I like the skeletoes better because they have a more stable sole and a bit thicker sole also the ones that I have tie so I can adjust the "tension" accross the top of my foot where I also have issues. Skeletoes are also half the price of five fingers. I think with the thicker sole and more adjustable top that is why I like them so well. There is plenty of room to acomadate the swelling my foot and toes can move freely and I am not seperating the last two toes so it feels more natural. they run about 50 bucks so it is not a huge amount to give them a try. I have decided that the skeletoes with the "tennis shoe" sole have been a major cause of the feet and legs flaring so I think they will be going to the good will and I will be getting another pair like the ones I have. Luckily I am a function over fashion girl so I am ok with multiple pairs of the same thing! LOL. Also I got the "mens" because they had the ties.. Hope that helps. Good luck!
