What now?

Well.....had to leave work again today....now I am officially on probation. I can't work full-time....I'm not reliable right now. This is extremely difficult for me as I have spent the last 25 years working in the medical field as a Cert. Med. Asst.....mostly office nursing in FP and Internal Med.....Elem School... I have always been the caretaker and that is how my family has always seen me......Not sure what to do now...

Biggest concern right now is what do I do when I lose my job and insurance??? We are just getting caught up....my husband just graduated last May.

Just feeling a bit overwhelmed and would greatly appreciate any advice or direction...

Oh hon, I sure have empathy for you,... I am having exactly the same issues.... and mine is even a sedentary job. I have had two write ups in the last three months... Before that.. I may have had one or two in fifteen years .. and they were very minor..

As to work.... make sure they let you go... do not quit!!! Make sure it is .. for you not being able to perform your job as the reason for dismissal... If u apply for Social Security.... it will help your claim.

I am working with an attorney... just hanging on at work... he said .. whatever they do to you - DO NOT QUIT.... do not admit that you cannot perform your job... just keep trying..

I know how it will hurt your pride ... I cried for quite awhile.. but now Im ok

As for insurance... I know u will have Cobra offered... and Obamacare Im not sure about that.... I have not been able to get a lot of info on it yet...

Keep in touch... thinking of you

I agree with Karen... consult a disability attorney to help you decide what your next steps are. You may be able to get a free initial consultation. There are ramifications to the decisions you make now, and how they effect which direction you go in the future.

Apply for FMLA. Your company cannot hold it against you if your absence is fmla approved. Your doctor will need to sign forms. You have to work a certain number of days per year (in the 12 months back) to qualify. I’m sorry I can’t remember how many. You may not have enough days if you are parttime. But it is worth checking into. Don’t give up yet without checking out all your rights.

Wow....Karen I cannot tell you how much this means to me! When I went to bed last night I thought I had hit a "no mans land" topic.....I appreciate the advice....was about to go in and quit......I actually tried to quit about 3 mo's after I started but they wouldn't let me! They let me go to part-time! I just went back FT in November......won't offer to quit now! I am doing a sedentary job now....client services at a lab. After my last CMA job at a University last year, my feet hurt so bad I knew my new job would have to be a desk job.....and now it's everywhere...

Thanks again for the encouragement and advice.....it really touched my heart!
