I have not been feeling too well, stiffness and joint pain. I've tried a few different drugs, changed my diet and started exercising more. So while I am sitting in my chair, because that is all I feel like doing; I started researching all of the medications I take regularly. I take Simvastatin for slightly elevated cholesterol. I found the following interesting info. Simvastatin and other statins cause muscle/joint pain!
Has anyone had pain attributed to statins? I am seriously considering stopping it. But I know you are not supposed to stop suddenly. Has anyone done this? What were your results?
Thanks for posting this information ! I started taking atorvastatin after prednisone increased my cholesterol. Very interesting article. Thanks so much !
I was misdiagnosed for most of my life. PsA started in my late 30s, and it got more extreme year after year. I never had this fatigue , stiffness, and depression before. I started statin drugs 3 years ago. I could tolerate the PsA pain much better before, it was mostly joint/ bone pain. Now, my muscles ache all over. I am definitely stopping statins and trying to use supplements and diet instead. I am calling my family doc tomorrow. I recently stopped Prozac after taking it for 5 years and getting more depressed. The PsA drugs have helped with joint damage and psoriasis. I haven't given up on being able to move and the motivation to do so.
My GP had me stop my Lipitor for 3 months before I went to Rheumatology and was diagnosed with PsA. Then she had me restart it. If it was due to Lipitor it would have stopped when I stopped it and restarted when I restarted the Lipitor. It had no effect. She also checked my thyroid and cardiac enzymes. All normal so then I saw Rheumatology.
