Red hot patches down my leg with very inflamed knee

Hi All
I have had to stop my Enbrel for 3 weeks now as I am going in for an operation tomorrow. Off course this means a massive flair up. My knees are particularly bad with the normal inflammation symptoms - hot,red and swollen. The thing I am unsure about is the same inflammation symptoms (red, hot patches) forming down my leg. These patches react exactly the same as the one on my knee. They will appear and disappear with my knee inflammation. Any idea why this happens?

This is a question for your doctor. However, it may be psoriasis. There are different varieties, and I get swelling with mine. Or maybe could be your arthritis - this question is better suited for your doctor.

I doubt that it’s psoriasis as it just shows up with the inflammation as disappears again as soon as my joint cools down. I have taken a picture to show my doc but only seeing him next month on the 16th.

PsA involves more than just the joint, it may be related to the joint issues. When my ankle swells so does have my lower leg.

One would hope that it is psoriasis. In about 12% of PsA parients the P follows the inflammation. But as martibot said this is a doctor question (an one I would have answered prior to any general anesthetic) The other possibilities range from the benign to the serious. About 10% of PsA patients develop ANCA-positive vasculitis which is pretty serious stuff. Also not unheard of is Scleroderma, Raynaud's , or even Sjogren's that track along with flares of PsA.

Yeah I will definitely show the doc thats operating tomorrow. Can't really postpone the op as I have a labral tear in my hip which is causing me immense pain. I have had vasculitis when I was on revelex and I was also thinking that this looks a lot like it but only on a bigger scale. This has happened before and it would normally go away quite fast (couple of hours) but it seems to be lasting a bit longer now. I checked and it looks/feels like my hip, knee, ankle and all of my toes are heavy inflamed. They are all on the side of the hip with the labral tear. Thanks for the info though - will read up on all of them so that I can have some knowledge when going to my rheumy.
