OTC's for headaches and sleep

I am a newbie, just in my 4th week of meth and prednisone. Last night I had a migraine and occasionally I have trouble sleeping. Is it ok if I take an excederin migrain or an excederin pm to help? I called my drs office and left a message but have not heard back yet. I would really like to get a good nights sleep.

Definitely check with your doctor. I have used both at different points with no ill effects. But remember that everyone is different in terms of how their bodies handle meds.

Also, are you drinking enough fluids.

The no sleep with a headache on the side is a bummer. Sorry to hear about it. Stoney's answered your question and I'd like to add my endorsement of her question about fluid intake.

MTX is incredibly hard on our bodies. I don't think there's a single person on this site who has used MTX and not experienced some kind of side effect--even if they have tolerated it well and gotten good results. And headaches and nauseousness are the two top side effects. Both can be helped by adding water into your daily routine.

I didn't tolerate MTX very well at all (pill or injection) but my side effects of nauseousness and headaches were greatly diminished once I started drinking my 8 glasses a day. I kept a large refillable water bottle by my bed and drank a full one in the morning as soon as I woke up and drank the second over the course of the day. I didn't like doing it but I can tell you it really made a difference while I was on MTX. I was encouraged to do this by a mod on the site (so consider this my pay-it-forward act of the day!) As a baseline drinking 8 (full) glasses of water a day (64oz) would be a great start. Or you could aim for the 1oz of water per lb of body weight guideline--although that sounds like an awful lot to me!

I do hope you get some rest and headache relief.

I also have to recommend that you monitor your fluid intake. Headaches can be common on MTX and can often be prevented by adding more high quality H2O.

Thanks everyone. I am glad that last spring I stopped drinking pop and switched to water. I find it difficult to drink plain water so I buy a flavored water which I can drink throughout the day. I quess I will up my intake and today, (3 days later) my dr office called and said that I can take the excederin migrain and pm for sleep, so thats good.
