Never knew this but last week when I went to my I was told to go off my Mtx and Plaquenil for one week before surgery and one week after. He said the same thing goes for any diagnosed infection. He said they both hindered the healing process and that is why they have this protocol. Well I will say, if you don't know if your meds are working, go off them for a couple weeks. The proof is in the pudding as they say. I will not take for granted my meds any longer. Not only am I flaring all over, but my mouth, face and whole head are in pain too. Just thought I would share.......
Sorry that you're going through this Alma. Feel better soon.
I know what you mean Alma, when I tried to go off mine 3 years ago the same thing happened to me and then I realised how much it was working. Sometimes I think it takes that to realise that they actually do work, because its such a gradual process rather than a quick result. I hope your symptoms settle down quickly once you go back on ur meds. Best of luck, Kelly
Ugh, Alma! As if having the oral surgery alone isn’t bad enough! But be glad that the dentist asked you to stop: last year I had an extraction, and it didn’t heal well. I asked about mtx, and he said to keep taking it. I couldn’t find anything online which contradicted that, so I continued with it. I had to go back three times to have the site cleaned out because the dentist was concerned that it wasn’t healing right because of debris left behind. Quitting mtx for a couple of weeks would surely have been easier than three rounds of cutting and scraping.
Meanwhile, at Rancho Seenie, I’m off my Enbrel while I take an antibiotic for an eensy-weensy skin infection on one of my toes. Really really don’t want to risk my brand new hip replacement. Fingers crossed! But, one day overdue for Enbrel and I’m already starting to seize up.
Nice to hear from you again, Alma. I was wondering how you’re doing. Hope you get through the dentistry without too many trials, and you’re feeling better soon!
