Is it a myth or a fact that breathing in cold air can cause colds, etc. It is football weather and I am a mom of two boys who play the sports. The temperatures are turning and I want to be there and watch them play but I also do not want to put myself at risk.
Colds are caused by viruses not cold air. In reality you are better off outside in the cold air than breathing hot air in a crowded auditorium with people coughing and sneezing all around you. So enjoy the the football with your kids.
I had boys who played college ball, and the question I had then and still do: is there really a mother who EVER really enjoyed watching their boys play football????? But pabu is right its healthier to watch football than basketball...... Just stay warm, the cold moist air can raise havoc with the joints.....

Yep, getting cold and wet may play hell with your joints but its viruses that cause colds. Not only do we breathe them in from the air around us where people are sneezing and coughing, but also recent research has shown that viruses are transfered when people cough and sneeze into their hands and then touch surfaces that you then touch and transfer the germs to your hands, face, your food. So getting family members to cover their mouths and noses when sneezing or coughing, then wash their hands is a good help in preventing cross infection. Always wash your hands before handling food and eating as well. Good luck to all of us in the beginning of the cold and flu season!
I am a football mom, have been for over 5 years, and I LOVE watching my kids play. The cold weather sucks, but they are so fun to watch.

I am a football mom too! And I LOVE watching them play. My oldest son just graduated college playing football and my younger son is still playing college football. We travel every weekend in the fall. Never have gotten a cold from it. Colds are caused by viruses. I do dress warm and always have good gloves with me. Enjoy!! Football season is too short too miss any!
Mine plays in college as well. You travel every weekend. May I ask how long you have been fighting this disease and how long you have been on bio meds?

Mine was a fullback, Mom never missed a game but kept her eyes closed a lot. especially when we went to that 1 back option thing.....
Funny thing, the only Serious sports Injury we had with the boys (we had 5) was soccer (split a kidney on a slide tackle and was intensive care) and cross country compartment syndrome (they did an aspiration in the ambulance and he still almost lost his leg.)
The fullback broke a number of bones - none of them his. he never learned to run around anyone.
Yes Ole Miss. He is a true freshman. He is second team center. My husband played at The University of Tennessee and did very well there. Played some pro ball and them got a knee injury. I also have a freshman in high school and he plays as well.
With this new lovely condition, my husband bought me a scooter so I could around get around easier and the school puts me in the handicap section so I can be under cover. I am just scared of the cold weather that is settling in. I am new to this autoimmunue disease so I am someone living in fear.
I do not want to back to the mack truck feeling again if I cannot help it. It was a terrible feeling!

My boys play d3. So our traveling is pretty much limited to driving 3-4 hrs each way. But still long Saturdays!! My husnand lives driving. so i judt relax in the car. We do overnights when the traveling is longer. I have had this disease for about 10 years. Only meds I have tried is MTX. My doc just stopped it. I had too many bouts with infections. Considering humira. But for now I am lucky. My pain is limited to my hands only. They are bad. Swelling never goes down in one finger and pain in all of them. But i can function! It’s weird but i don’t have pain anywhere else. I do know that can change. The toughest thing for me is fatigue. But right now I manage. I didn’t like the way MTX made me feel. When I am ready I will go on a bio.
I have a tightend and a running back. Both have had knee surgeries. My daughter plays travel
Softball too. So we travel in the spring too!!! I keep going as long as I can. No matter how u get there please just enjoy watching! Cold has never bothered me. The years fly by…enjoy !
Ok folks, I am all packed. Gloves, hat, scarf, thermal gear, coat, hand sanitizer, kleenex for the leaky nose, boots. I am off to the first football game in the cold weather. Hand flare last night but I think I over did it by addressing 30 invitations the night before. Knee is acting up but I need a TKR so that is not going to get any better. Thanks for all the support! Go Rebels!
Have a great time....... Uh, do they tailgate at all down there? Baby wipes are particularly effective on barbie sauce ( the tomatoe kind, not the peppermint type frequently used to replace water in "water bottles.........)
I went to my son's game last night. Air activated hand warmers in the gloves are fantastic. Had leather gloves, ears covered, head covered, multiple layers under a coat with a wool blanket wrapped around me. Uggs on the feet with socks that went above the knees. The action really warmed me up. My son plays offensive and defensive. He had many great plays and our fans were cheering him on, saying "go buzz go!" His fb coach nicknamed him Buzznuts, but he goes by buzz. ha ha.
Just got back from the game. It was cold and wet! It rained the first half thank goodness I was under cover. Yes we tailgate. We do out tailgating in the grove. Youtube Ole Miss Tailgating and you can see how crazy it can be. I went and sat under a tent until the rain got to a point where I could go to the game. I too wrapped myself up. Stayed warm! Nose started to drip but that was mostly due to the cold weather..clear. Put Neosporain under my nose to keep it from cracking and to protect the skin as well.
One of the more amazing tailgating experiences I have ever had was at your husbands alma mater. Two locals got into a fist fight over whose ribs were the best and who was going to serve the Montana Biys there for the game first.......... Glad you had a good time. Your boy is playing as a true frosh????????? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes and we are very proud of him. I go to all the home game, only one hour away from home, have not gone to the away gams since they are on television we save money. He understand thankfully.
