I was watching an ad for Nasacort and it mentioned cytokines so I went online and copied this from their page:
The fact is your body responds to allergens by releasing chemicals, some of them include: cytokines
So, I was wondering if anyone's symptoms get worse when they have an allergy response? And if so, what do you do for it? Which allergy med do you use that doesn't conflict with meds you're already taking.
My allergies are year round and I take Allegra for it. This past Christmas I unknowningly rented a house that had been occupied by an animal I was highly allergic to. My asthma, allergies and PsA all flared up terribly. It took Prednisone to get the asthma and allergies under control. While having the PsA flare up I was diagnosed with psoriasis and elevated everything. I also had Psoriasis flare up bad at the same time. I wanted to scratch my scalp off!!!
In answer to your question... anytime my allergies are bad everything is worse. I'm waiting to take a biologic within the next week or two. So I'm not on anything for PsA.
Thanks for your reply. I hope you get on a biologic quickly.

I've wondered about this. For five or six years now I have felt the worst late spring/early summer. I have no idea if it is all coincidence, or if having my immune system all revved up to do battle with pollen has something to do with it taking on my elbows, too. My current favorite allergy med is also Allegra. Best relief, least drowsiness.
Okay, so I have a yearly spring flare that coincides with allergy season, and a lesser flare in the fall that corresponds with ragweed season. My allergy symptoms themselves don't bother me that much, not enough to medicate. But a few springs in a row, I tried taking allergy meds starting in early March and through June. Made no difference whatsoever in my flare, and made minimal difference in my mild allergy symptoms, so I no longer do that.
This year I started Enbrel in mid February. It's become obvious that the biologic is working, as I'm not having a full out flare. I'm not doing as great as I had hoped, but I think I need to wait until after allergy season to start feeling great.
Its known as Fever few in Europe. In the good ol USA we call it Rag Weed. On would think inhaling it (or its pollen) would be a good thing..................
Yes allergies produce cytokines which is how cells communicate. The particular cytokine we are concerned with are called interleukins. More the case, I suspect, is our bodies are running in a very precarious balance and it doesn't take much to throw us off...............
From the allergy nurse at work: “Spend the money and take Zyrtec”. Honestly, spring is just a rough time of year for us. My PsA was doing really well, now I have migrating joint swelling AGAIN. Since your biggest manifestation is fatigue, I wonder if you are suffering the same spring fever!
That's what I'm thinking - allergies are making my fatigue worse.

Tuesday after yoga I didn't think I would make it three blocks to my car. Tonight after deep water exercise I had barely 300 yards and it was touch and go! What the hey! is up? I thought WINTER was the tough season.

You ain't kidding. I just hobbled up the steps sideways. Haven't done that in a long time.

Mind you I didn't say spring didn't lay a bunch of us out, but I'd sure like to know why. I can barely motate.
