Update 5 weeks post op

Hi guys,I just wanted to share my good & bad news. The good news is that my Orencia has kicked in,really kicked in. I realised that in multiple places where I had pain & stiffness are gone. I am Overjoyed that we seem to have got the meds right.

The bad news is my shoulder was a huge mess, a very large RC tear that’s been fixed with screws,a ton of scar tissue was removed as well as some AC bone & bursa. The doc was surprised that my bicep didn’t need work.
Anyway 5 weeks down the line and I’m progressing slowly, another 3 weeks in the sling & PT for goodness knows how long BUT I’m ok with it. I’m cautiously excited that once my shoulder has healed I am going to feel like a new person.
It has taken 3 years to getter right meds so for those of you still struggling,it’s out there the right combination,it’s just nailing it down that’s hard.
Wishing everyone a very good day

Thanks for the report! Its fun being a few weeks behind someone who had it so much worse than you and progressing so well with such a positive attitude. I did have similar repair a few years ago and I can offer this bet of advice.remind the PT those rubber bands can be used for a weapon.

On a different note I'm gonna need to start carrying a purse after this is over. I can't believe how handy that sling is for carrying things........ Right now I have a flash light, my close up glasses, meds, and a golf ball in there.....

Thank Lamb, PT is pretty rough isn’t it! How you sleeping in your sling? I slept on the recliner for a few weeks & now I take myself off to bed with lots of pillows. My sling is off in 3 weeks ( it better be). I have reminded the doc & PT that my left arm still works & I can throw a decent punch

I'm in bed with pillows. Had a terrible catastrophe on Sunday afternoon. This is no "Lamb Tale" I returned my rental relcliners (the electric ones) moved to my regular recliner sat on it lifted the handle laid it back and it kept going. I hear aloud crack as the base is in pieces I'm laying on the floor feet in the air and I can't move I could roll out except my good shoulder is against the wall so I can't. I am of course commando in my bath robe. (One handed pants lowering even with elastic is a chore.) My grandaughter is screaming "gross grandpa" over and over and over again (as only a spectrum kid can do.) The Mrs Lamb between laughing and praising the lord for the chair she has been trying to get rid of for years being in pieces was no help - zero. Finally after getting me covered up my grandaughter, the nanny and my wife finally get the chair upright enough I can get out.

I'm hurting like H and of course I can't take any pain pills as I was previously involved in pre-St Paddys day festivities The worst of it isnow we are furniture shopping again. I tried to get an appointment for an elective root canal without Novocain top get out of it as it preferable, but the dentist was full up

Oh dear,I now have no idea what to say other than it is a little bit funny after the event. Goodness it could have been so much worse though. How long is recovery for a shoulder replacement,do you have weeks of PT ahead?

Your "Lamb Tales" are too much Lamb!

I can just see it!

Want my husband to come over and get that chair for you or is it all ready dead?

I met the dungeonmaster the a day or after my surgery right after I got out of the ICU (bleeding issues .) Most of it is self directed IF i do my homework, I suspect the early Pt was either retribution for trashing my room or a glimpse of things to come if I don't do my homework. No real PT other than trying to wake up my muscles. The Deltoids are unattached during the surgery so they decide to leave the room for a few months. I have a 1 pound weight limit for at least 2 mos with the effected arm then we go to work. The doc says 20% function at 3 mos 50% at 6 mos and 80% 12 mos. same with the pain. However I don't see the pain as an issue (as long as don't have anymore "problems") it hurts like a sumbitch but it is so different from what I am used to its almost relieving as I don't notice the normal arthritis pain. Right now if the bruising would clear up I'd be a happy camper. Half my chest upper back and upper arm are still black-black from the bleeding and pretty sensitive to the touch.

My chair will rise again Michael, My son who understands the importance of such things has the pieces laid out in the garage similar to reconstructing a wrecked air plane. A couple of 12 packs, 2 or 3 bottles of gorilla glue, some Kreig screws and it will function again...........

The chair is dead. Long live the chair.

Thanks for the laugh! I was picturing your granddaughter and it was priceless.

lamb--I think the correct term is "murse" (short for man-purse). for the love of g*d don't start wearing a fanny pack (or bum bag as we like to call them in England as the American name is a little too anatomically descriptive...)
