Traveling with injectable medications

Hi, I am new to taking injections.

At the end of the week I am headed out west to do some desert walking/hiking.

I always carry on my luggage. How does this work with the TSA and syringes?

I would like to hear how other fliers handle this. Thanks!

Hi Martha, all you need is a letter off your GP or Specialist Nurse! I needed letter last year for travelling got few copies off my Specialist Nurse & all you do is carry your meds plus letter on board with you. I never got stopped with mine or luggage searched… soo as long as you’ve a letter you’ll be grand!

Martha, just as long as you have the prescriptions with official labels (that match your name, of course) you'll be fine. I've never been detained by TSA (in the US) or security anywhere else. The ice packs usually get a a manual inspection and quick glance. I don't carry a letter, I take the drug summary that my pharmacist prints for me. Injectable medications are fairly common: diabetics carry syringes too.

Come to think of it, I've only ever had one interesting discussion at a border, and that was going from Canada into the US, when we were in our RV. Agent (out of the blue) asks if I am carrying syringes. Huh? What kind of a weird question ...??? I said "yes" and he asked why I did. So I told him. And then we were waved through. I still don't understand why they would ask a dumpy ordinary-looking 60-something woman that. Travelling is always an adventure!
