The power of our minds

So. Many of you might of heard of me wittering on on other people’s post about me. Sorry to all affected. I really wasn’t trying to hijack either.

Today, I got my bone density test results. Phew. Just before I thought and indeed said on here that it was reasonable to throw a huge tantrum only Irish people will understand at the now four week delay since the test, and the almost 5 months delay since it was apparently ordered. Such tantrums are usually loud and have far too many words begining with ‘f;’ but usually not with a ‘u’ in the word either. Instead it tends to have an ‘e’, just to make people hesitate. Magic that isn’it? I adore I’m just Irish.

I inexplicably fractured my pelvis in two spots on the same side in mid-June. No fall, no trauma, just nothing at al. I loved steroids, so much. Given the NICE protocol in the UK, I had, anyway, no other coherent option to capicitate me, as I so failed mxt and sadly sulfasalazine hasn’t done anything at all to include making my wee bright yellow. So, all that was left under the UK protocol to properly capcitate me was just steroids until I was deemed a DMARD failure. Until lit seems, I was deemed I had served my time. Interestingly, I haven’t yet committed any offence other than being Northern European and most of all Irish (hence the skin psoarisis anyway which is now almost not there) but paying taxes in the UK, My job is to make decisions on comsumer complaints against insurers and financial institutions in the UK. Not quite a judge, but always the judge if a consumer accepts my decision as then it’s bindng on the the business and the consumer.

Naturally given I developed, not one, but two weeny (but horrendously painful) pelvic fratures, all steroids (then no more than 10mgs a day) were stopped as fast as the steroid reducing protocol allowed. I did it too fast according to my rheumy but I was sh*t overly concerned, so did that matter?

However. I don’t have osteoporosis in my hips or pelvis. They are deemed just normal. I do have osteopenia in my spine. Just. The results were such that the diagnosis of it in my spine was questionable. However they erred on the side of caution. I’ve no problem with that at all as I’m 55 and ‘through’ the menopause to boot. I’m guessing there’s not a lot of women at my age or stage are any different either. With or without PsA. Incidentally the pelvic fractures were in my groin, so nowhere near my spine or hips. indeed the area was so intimate only the nurse who first examined me dared to touch it, Her male orhtopeadic specialists didn’t even want to.

Thankfully! LOL,

So go figure please. I’m out of all figuring, frankly.

So.

So after all that time you got pretty much nothing? No reason for the bones to just spontaneously break?..

Really big hug! I don’t know what I would find scarier… Knowing there’s osteoporosis so things can break or knowing there isn’t any and they broke anyway…

Precisely Cynthia. It’s sure foxed me.

Cynthia, I know you don’t always think you state things clearly in English, but I sure couldn’t have said it better myself.

I’m sorry Poo, big hugs :hugs:

Wow, that is confusing.

Have you had any kind of face to face meeting with an Ortho since? Unless this is more commonplace than we think, you’d have thought the doctors would find it intriguing.

I am sure you’ve asked yourself this, and been asked it many times, but is there nothing you can recall that might have caused the fractures? I would imagine that falling off a bike saddle onto the crossbar might do it, but possibly even falls that don’t actually impact on that area?

No fall, no nothing Sybil. I simply ran up the stairs, as I was on low dose steroids then and full of coherent capacity! Thought I pulled something then. The next day it was painful and by the end of two weeks, it was horrendously painful and off I went in an ambulance to get it x-rayed. And no it doesn’t appear there’s going to be any follow up as no treatment is indicated. So I’m guessing no one other than us thinks it’s intriguing.

They called it a ‘stress fracture’ at the time.

So it’s mystery to me bearing in mind the no osteopenia in my hips and the just about osteopenia in my spine. But it will be interesting to see the results of the full spine MRI (with the inflammatory protocol) which Dr Ellie ordered. I had that last week and the results should be available in a couple of weeks.

Ugh, if I were you I’d be damn careful with your back (spine)–I mean lifting, twisting, pulling…you know, all the things that can cause a fracture!!! Your bones, even those without osteopenia, must be very fragile!

Thanks Grandma_J. I’m hoping my bones aren’t fragile though. Certainly the tests say not. I think it was just one of those things and the calcium and VitD I’ve been on since strengthened things up again. I’ve no problems, lifting, twisting or pulling to date, even with a lively dog on the end of the lead.:grinning:
