My 7 yr olds inflamed joints.. Would like suggestions

Hi everyone, my daughter is 7, she has PsA & until now all she had to deal with was a sausage toe on her left foot. She caught a fever this weekend and developed some pretty inflamed spots. The inside of her left knee looked like a huge welt, it was hot to touch. Her ankle looked like a heat rash & the inside of her right knee had started to look the same. I gave her some benedryl thinking it was a hive @ first but took her to urgent care to follow up. They recommended we call her rheumy on Monday (which I will) but when these flares happen to joints what do you do? At one point she said it burned. We had cool compresses on it (?) gave her some Ibprofin… Any other suggestions??

When joints are hot, you'll want to ice them, no more than 20 minutes at a time. You did everything right. And you already know that you need to follow up with the rheumy, particularly since this is the first time that she's had swollen joints like this.

Thank you Stoney!

It sounds like you did all the right things! I would add that if icing joints causes her more pain, which it does in some people with PsA, you can try a cold wet cloth if she finds that soothing, or heat, if that helps. Even though it's counterintuitive, heat can help with painful swollen PsA joints.
