Just getting around - mobility

Does anyone else find it really hard to get around, my feet, ankles, knees, hips and lower back all form a cocktail that really effects my mobility

Hi there, Dazzler (in the home of the world’s best cider, speaking of cocktails, LOL)
Mobility is my biggest problem, the epicenter of my disease being my feet. It’s really quite a problem. For short distances, I have a cane and crutches, and for longer hauls I use a mobility scooter. I hate hate hate it, but it’s either use the aids or stay put. Staying put is not an option – we have to do what we have to do to stay moving and functional.

I have been through all stages of lack of mobility. I have two sets of canes, two sets of crutches (one of which my kids refer to as my bionic arms), and a wheelchair named Ziggy. I found it amusing that my initial response to your question was, "I don't find it hard to get around at all - I have everything I need to get me where I need to go!" After my initial qualms about using mobility devices, I've grown to love them, because on my bad days/weeks/months/years, they allow me to do so much more than I could do if I tried doing it on my own two feet! I do have to say that I'm a menace with a grocery scooter. LOL

My knees feel like they are cement and my hips & lower back get so bad that I can barely walk sometimes. When the fatigue hits so does the immobility for me. My feet and toe joints are so bad that I have had to start wearing New Balance tennis shoes to the office at work all day. We have a business dress code, I get some nasty looks in the office at my shoes, I am just waiting for a co-worker to make a comment.

Hi Charger73, welcome! Have a look at this link to mens shoes, you may find something comfy and more suited to your work dress code: http://www.fitflop.co.uk/mens/mens,en_GB,sc.html. This is the UK site but there a link to find stockists overseas. The extra thick soles give ample cushioning for sore feet, I can't wear anything else and so they help keep me mobile.
