I just need some reaffirmation that I am not insane. My arthritis is inflamed in my neck and thoracic spine and I am having a difficult time swallowing. This is related? I am sure that my rheumy told me it was - but I feel like that is nuts
It can be. It can also be dehydration form several types of meds. MTX is primary but the biolgicals can have a similar effect. Humira especially. you should be consuming about 1.5 oz fluid per pound of body weight when on DMARDs or Biologicals. You produce normally about a quart and a half of saliva a day. You can't do that if you are low and saliva causes an automatic swallowing response that most folks never notice. if you do its lack of volume. I its strictly inflammation your breathing is also effected. Also fatigue levels are high.
Thanks - not on MTX anymore - and definitely drink more than enough water. 6 pints a day at least. It just hurts :( I am drinking lots of cold water because that is the only thing I can swallow right now without wincing. My kids don't like to see me wince, upsets them too much. I am just glad to know that I am not insane.

No, you’re not insane, although a lot of what goes on with this disease seems to make us feel like that, doesn’t it? If the problem persists, I’d double check that with the doc again. Problems swallowing is very nasty. Sorry you’re having a rough go of it.
thanks Seenie. I see my Rheumy tomorrow for our regular check up anyway. Just like to have an understanding place to visit sometimes. People look at you like you are crazy when you say things like "Ya - my arthritis is making it hard to swallow" I just need a nap - on an ice pack
thanks for listening everyone
You’re welcome. It’s nice to see you drop it – it’s been a long time!
OMG not ANOTHER possible PsA symptom!!!! WT ????? My food gets stuck going down a lot, and I have to quick drink something to wash it down. My regular doctor is always checking my thyroid cuz she tells me it's a little enlarged. I wouldn't even doubt if this is just one more stupid PsA symptom! I have had this going on for quite a long time, so it couldn't be the fault of Enbrel and I don't take other meds. hmmmm, let us know if you find out any more about this.
