For the Ladies Lookin' good with PsA (Guys, you have been warned )

Mimi, thank you so much for opening this topic! The Genie bra is the bomb. I own lots of bras, and I only wear those. Shoes: i wear birkenstock style paris and they are a fun color and design. Tennies with orthotics are an option and I only buy shoes that my orthotics fit into. Someone mentioned slippers: I got the nice leather ones with sheepskin inside and i actually put my orthotics in those! They are so comfy, I want to wear them everywhere including work. (I don't). I transfer the orthotics to my uggs and where them instead. I didn't know about the mtx and heat waves. A coworker mentioned it when I couldn't take the heater in her car. I put it out of my mind until reading here. Hmmmm. I too have a memory foam pad on my mattress. Luckily my hunny is good with it. I have lots and lots of cute gloves to keep my mitts warm. It gives my painful hands support as well. Lets see, what else? My hair is falling out again, so I will get some scarves and various things to cover the front of the top of my head. Maybe a brown permanent marker will come in handy...Thanks again, Mimi!

Please not the brown magic marker hair.....! Anything but that!

My hair too is blowing in the wind. I went to a good hairdresser, told her my problem and she gave me a cute cut that has lots of layers in it that hide the thinness somewhat. I was always a straight and black kind of girl. She also colors it in a soft brown that must be very gentle as it does not bother my scalp psoriasis at all. And I can air dry it. Since taking mtx I now have curls. Too funny!

Hair colour…I’ve not had my natural shade (dull brown) since I was 16! But for the last 20 years my scalp can not take any colours from home kits to specialists sensitive dyes at the salon so I started using Henna…the body shop had one I used for years! But they stopped stocking it. I now use the Henna blocks from Lush…Henna stinks, its messy and takes about 3 hours but my scalp never has any problems with it, my hair feels thick and glossy and I get a lovely chestnut colour, from their ‘marron’ block. Each block cost me £8 and do me 3 sessions even with my hair is longer now than my photo

I used to henna my hair! Now it's purple .... what's left of it, anyway! LOL

Let's not forget PsA accessories! I LOVE my purple paisley canes and have, with the help of my kids, decked out Ziggy (my wheelchair) in colorful duct tape and hoop tape and bumper stickers. Actually, it's time for Ziggy's Autumn makeover - the kids will be excited!

I love tichels and head scarves and wear one (or just a bandanna) almost every day. Esty.com is my favorite place to shop for tichels (and everything handmade!!!).

I have this pretty cane - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EQPHDU/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00 Thankfully I haven't been needing it lately.

My canes:

TIchel:

OrganicKetchup I love that cane, I may have to order one. I have one that is purple and green with butterflies! It reminds me I can flit like a butterfly still...at least in my mind!

Nym - Love that cane! How do you get the tichel to stay on your head? Things like that always just sliiiiiiiide down my hair - makes me nuts!

I use to sew a hair comb in.......Nym how do you make it stay?

That particular tichel (I own that one!) is a "pretied" ...so it is gathered and has elastic in the back to help it stay on, and I put a couple black bobby pins in the front to hold it in place. I also have others, pretied and not, and scarves. Once you get the hang of tying them, they stay on better. Many people tie them too tight, and they slide back on their heads.

Mimi - Barkingdogshoes - thank you thank you!! I have been dreading the day my beloved discontinued Merrill’s wear out. Not to mention I can only wear them with jeans, good thing SF is always cold, but one day I’ll be able to work again or will just want to wear a skirt.

Makeup - I prefer drugstore prices but I lose money when the products don’t work on me and I stop using them. So someplace I can try it first is key. (like being able to return the Zappos shoes).

Now to try covering up my thinning frizzy hair with something like nym’s. Or maybe it’s cold enough for a warm hat hmmm.

Makeup I go with the Olay tinted moisturizer http://www.drugstore.com/olay-definity-color-recapture-anti-aging-moisturizersheer-illuminating-coverage-lightmedium/qxp193304?catid=182947 LOVE that stuff. It is lightweight, enough pigment to even out the p scars I have on my face, and keep me from having that dead pale look. It also has good SPF. Usually that, some Loreal Mascarahttp://www.drugstore.com/loreal-double-extend-beauty-tube-technology-lash-extension-effect-mascara-black/qxp209063?catid=183541 , and a bit of Physician's formula blush http://www.drugstore.com/physicians-formula-mineral-blush-talc-free-powder-pink-glow-2679/qxp198340?catid=183545 is it for make up. I might really get wild and add some eye liner, but that's just for special occasions.

Hair color I currently have a 2 friends who used to be hairdressers and they will do my coloring for me. They love me so they also spend 30 minutes giving me that wonderful head massage. I'm dreading when I move to Phoenix and having to find someone who is ok with my scaly scalp.

I haven't found a bra I like so I'll have to try this genie bra if I can find it. I was ginormous in the frontal globe department and my dr suggested that getting a breast reduction would help with my back and shoulder pain. I did and it did help with muscle tension, but I still need a boulder holder even after losing more than half of my boulders, and I hate uniboob.

During the summer when it's just cooler than hell here I have focused on finding tops that are long sleeve, but made out of airy breathable fabric. I also have several crocheted sweaters that are made out of embroidery thread type yard and very lightweight and breezy which is nice to disguise my p and not get overheated LOVE that in winter I can just bundle up and pretend I'm being fashionable.

I love the Olay Infinity tinted moisturizer. I am going to try the Genie bra and I also want to try the sweat pants that look like jeans. I think they might be just the ticket for cold mornings when fingers don't work so well.

I live in my Green Apple organic yoga pants. They are a bamboo, cotton mix and get softer every time I wash them.

For those with dry hair, you can get the intense conditioner that comes in hair coloring boxes SEPARATELY. It is right by the hair color and I think it is Nice n Easy brand. It is mostly coconut oil I think (from the smell), and doesn't irritate my scalp. When I had long hair I used it every 2 weeks on the bottom 1/2 of my hair. Now that my hair it shorter I use it about once a month. The conditioning seems to last for a long time.

I wanted to mention a product that I recently discovered for dry skin. It is Gold Bond Ultimate Skin Therapy Cream (in the tube). OmGosh, how did I live without this stuff ? It has done wonders for my hands, feet and elbows. I am experimenting with some nail products. I just can't bear the thought of all of the germies in the nail salon. I'll keep you posted !

This has been a VERY interesting conversation, mimiB--glad you opened it up again because I wasn't here in 2012. I want to try out those Genie bras (if they're still on the market) and the Gold Bond cream. I also need those pads for nipping out--I get so embarrassed about that, so I've always worn 1/8" lined bras to conceal it. My older daughters tease me--they remember when I nursed Anne for 3 years (20 years ago) and seeing my "sausage" nipples hahaha!!!.....well, of course, they look like that when the baby first detaches, but they're not like that all the time! They can have that picture in their imaginations if they want. I'm very private, so they don't see my boobs anymore.

I've been wearing Vanity Fair bras for years now, underwired and full coverage. I think the style number is 76025, but it's printed on the fabric and hard to read, so that might not be correct. Anyway, they have great support and I do like them--except my doctor once told me my chest possibly hurts because I'm wearing my bras too tight. I am going to check into the Genie bras also. I hope I don't forget to.....with Christmas coming all I can think about is how am I going to get all my shopping done, etc.?????? Scary thought!

Genie bras are great, as are Playtex brand bras.

I changed my bath products to paraben and sls free. I use nature gate brand shampoo and conditioner, jason body wash, and swanson brand face wash. I use kiss my face lotion and almond oil for my dry skin. Keeps the burning and itchy skin at bay. I also take biotin vitamins to keep my hair falling out.

Yes, Grandma J, Wallyworld has them. Genie bra gets a vote from me too! It was someone on this board who recommended them, they were so rasonably priced that I took a chance. I was kind of between sizes, so I bought one of each and Mimi is right: size up. They are comfortable, and the uniboob effect isn’t too bad, certainly not like a sports bra! The modesty pads are a little annoying when they move and shift, but that’s minor.

I splurged last month while we were in the US, and went to Soma to buy myself a dress-up bra. I got one of their vanishing back styles. It’s padded, but no underwire. It’s the most comfortable “real” bra I’ve ever had. But like I say, a big splurge. When I’m not dressed up (which is most of my life) I’m in my Genie.

On the topic of creams and lotions, I now have one handfacefootkneeelbowcuticle cream: Cerave. It’s hypoallergenic, non-greasy and does a lovely job keeping everything smooth. And the price is right! One big jar lasts me the better part of a year.

Ok, so I had no idea what a Genie bra was so I googled it .... and guess what, they now seem to have a UK website.

Until recently I'd always bought my bras at M&S but after having the last couple fall apart I thought I'd try one of the specialist bra shops (Bravissimo) and have a proper fitting, especially as I'm quite a large cup size. It was brilliant and for the first time in a long time I now wear a bra that fits perfectly and not a hint of a uniboob.
