Diclofenac sodium for inflammation

Has anyone tried this drug for joint pain and headaches? My family Dr just called it in and I’ll try it tonight. Just wondering if anyone had any luck with it or bad reactions. I was taking naproxen for a long time but it really wasn’t helping. Also, he said I can take it to 3000mg of Tylenol with it.

I use diclofenac cream for inflamed small joints. It works really well for that. As I understand it, this is a pretty standard prescription for PsA.

Wow, I didn’t know it came in cream. That might be another option as well.
Thanks!

brand name is Voltaren

Your best bet is to have a pharmacy compound it for you. Its much cheaper and they can add such cool things as DMSO, cortisone, and maybe even lidocaine. Most compounding pharmacies have their own recipe.

Is it expensive? Does your Dr have to call in or or how does it work?

Depends on the relationship your Rheumie has with the pharmacist what you do. My Doc had several (handed down from her mom an old time pharmacist and one from Dad a veterinarian) she would prescribe. Generally with prescription compounds you are best to start with the pharmacist, explain your needs, and have them communicate with the doc. diclofenac is a dirt cheap generic, but voltaren is about $60.00. I pay less than $20.00 for a compounded version.

The main problem with diclofenac is it causes some folks tummy problems. The gel avoids that. Its also available as a suppository. Only 10% of the medication makes it to the blood stream orally or rectally. about 80% makes it to where it needs to be topically.

Thanks for the info. I’ll talk to my pharmacist when I go in next. Sounds like a good idea.

I take a slow release diclofenac I’ve found it good for me. I still have some aches and pains but when I forget a couple of doses I realise how well they work after the pain gets worse again. I take losec with it to protect my stomach. Everyones response to it is different good or bad. I’d say give it a go if it’s no good for you there’s a whole list of other options to try. I hope you get some relief soon.
