Is their anyone treating PsA that also have lyme? If so, how are the PsA meds affecting your lyme symptoms? I've been treating for lyme for four years now. I began with abx and became so sick I had to stop and switched to herbals. Began feeling better. I am afraid to use the PsA drugs because of the lyme and really need to hear from someone with the experience of taking these drugs while also fighting lyme.
Yes, there are a couple of people here who have both Lyme and PsA. If you go to the search box at the very top right of this page and key in “Lyme”, it will put you on the trail …
I assume you had a positive “EIA” (enzyme immunoassay) and a“IFA” (indirect immunofluorescence assay). that were both positive which were followed up with the Western Blot (immunoblot) Results are considered positive only if the EIA/IFA and the immunoblot are both positive. As probably you well know there is a whole industry that has sprung up around Lymes that is as crooked as a dogs hind leg.
Some of the antibiotics used for lymes don't play well with the DMARDs but as a 14 day run is all that is necessary, it generally not a problem. Lymes Reactive Arthritis is extraordinarily rare and goes away with the antibiotic treatment. There is a lot of money being made treating "chronic Lymes" and associated arthritis. because its "supplements" and "herbs" its allowed to flourish including the "independent labs" doing the testing the FDA can't stop it (yet). I know there is nothing that can be said to dissuade the "believers" as denial is an almost insurmountable mountain. Its a shame these people will suffer permanent irreversible damage as well as pain before they figure it out.
tntlamb,
my mom is in her 70's and her dr. is urging her to get test for Lyme Disease. Ugh. She's perfectly healthy. You are right there was SO many scams out there! I too was under the impression you get treated with abx and were done, and "chronic lyme" is shady medicine.
Vicki,
If you have PsA, TREAT IT. You are in for a world of misery if you don't take PsA seriously. Damage can be done without pain, or extreme pain without damage. It's hard to know, and you won't know until it is too late. Don't mean to sound like such a downer. I'm just having a frustrating day. PsA is currently doing a number on my eyes, my joints, and waiting on tests to see how bad the mess is with my cardiovascular system. PsA is not just about aching joints.
It may not be once and done for treatment with Lymes, It may take an additional treatment with a different antinbiotic (but that is rare) The two step test procedure is over 99% accurate. I you have actuaully ever had Lymes or more importantly been EXPOSED to lymes one of the three will be positive. Just as you would if tested for almost any disease. Antibodies exist forever.
In any event even if PsA was caused by Lymes (and there is not a shred of evidence to say it was) eliminate the Lymes and one still has PsA that needs treated.
I would like to express a different point of view. Chronic lyme is real. It is not a scam. Of course there are always some scammers not matter what the issue is. ILADS.org (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) has a lot of information.
