Oh yes, it is getting old, indeed! A nice cold beer would be EXCELLENT in this hot hot weather.
Okay, I get lamb's train of thought now. And I love his future vision for you! Made me smile.

Yes, Petunia, that's the general idea. I've been on mtx since September, with various other DMARDs thrown in. No improvement. I am on this regime until September, and if nothing has improved, it's then a bio for me.
Long story short: I drink veeeeery moderately. Really, I'm not lyin'. In the good old days, I regularly enjoyed a glass of wine. I'm terrified of liver problems, though, so I've been on the wagon since starting mtx. The rheumy really put the fear into me when she added leflunomide last month. The heartbreak of sobriety is getting very very old.
Petunia Girl said:Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I take it you want off MTX and on Enbrel. Well, like lamb said, here's a good opportunity.
Seenie said:LOL, Lamb knows what my heart desires!
tntlamb said:NO NO NO, its the MTX and you need off of it immediaatly and on Enbrel....
Buy 'em books, send 'em to school and they still cant' cut and paste out of context from the internet sheesh!
So have a beer, Petunia!! Have many, do it before you are on MX!

I thought I would contribute my twopennorth , Seenie, even if it is an old discussion , as I have had both MTX and humira for a number of years. I also had a significant problem with dental health - extremely sore and bleeding gums, despite my most ardent and thorough attempts to care for them as I was told. I have to say it was always both expensive and humiliating- there was always the implication that I was a lazy non toothbrushing kind of gal - with every visit. It cost me a lot of money. I spent a fortune on Corsodyl- and periodontal treatment .Interestingly as I write this I feel quite emotional , my teeth are great, hardly any fillings, I think I have one or maybe two from the past 4 or 5 years. until then , none. So, until the last few months, and I know you are fed up with this story, my gums were inflamed and bleeding every day. Now, they have changed colour- much paler- and no bleeding at all. I have stopped the Corsodyl, which is great as i now spend the money a bottle of red wine. The last dental appointment was so weird- the dentist was very curious - he said they are remarkably better, and then I told him what I was doing and he backtracked a little with some hocus pocus about homeostasis. My belief is the lower the inflammation the healthier the body. period . Sorry lamb, my gums were red and bled easily on MTX, Prednisolone and humira. At least I would be inclined to insist it were recognised as a part of the disease - and maybe get the perio work done on your health insurance. Maybe we should campaign for it.
Hi Seenie,
I never had any problems with gums or anything else until I began MTX. Since then I've had a root canal, numerous gum infections, oral ulcers and even a fever blister. I had my first ever fever blister a week ago. My dentist says he isn't sure if it's the MTX or the auto-immune, but it could be either thing causing these things to happen. Same answer from rheumy. I asked her if this would improve on a biologic and she said, again, it could go either way. Biologics could cause infections to be much worse, or if it's the PsA causing the problem, getting that under control could control the mouth problems. She said it's a stab in the dark. She has always discouraged me from trying biologics. She did tell me it may be of some benefit to take lysine supplements.
I often use the Medscape drug information site(their mobile site is great) on that it says for MTX that oral hygiene needs to be good as the drug can cause mucositis, which is inflammation of the mucos membrane of the mouth, GI tract and anus. Personally I have noticed I have sore gums when I’ve had an increase of doseage which lasts a couple of weeks then calms down.
Yes, I get the GI tract stuff for a day or two after I take MTX, then it seems to fade.
Seenie-
I have had all sorts of teeth problems. I have had several teeth that had root canals long ago suddenly become infected for no logical reason. The last round of problems involved a bridge which turned into a horrid nightmare. At the time, it was a medical mystery, but now I wonder if it was just another immunity issue. Follows the pattern with all the crazy things that I have been diagnosed over the last few years!
