Hello everyone,
Just a quick update about the tarsal tunnel procedure. I had the surgery and had improvement in the recovery room. The doctor found the tunnel full of scar tissue and inflammation around the muscles on the fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that covers muscle and keeps everything in the right place. I think it's also affected by the PsA in the areas of enthesis as it is a type of connective tissue.
Beyond the pain in the ankle and foot for the last year I also had a decreased ability to move the toes during this time. The surgeon spent some time releasing the muscle from the fascia and I noticed an immediate difference. Once I was awake in the recovery room my foot moved and felt like it did before. I didn't realize how much nerve damage I was experiencing until then.
The surgeon consulted with my rheumy and another colleague and they think the biologic may control the inflammation better now that the diseased tissue is gone. I hope that is the case and that my PsA is better controlled. Sorry to go on so but I wanted to share this is a new application of this procedure in treating the PsA damage in my foot. And I hope it may be helpful to someone else who has similar problems. :)
