Loosing ability to walk

First of all I wish everyone a PAINLESS Holiday. Does anyone out there have foot pain ? I have foot pain in my heal that travels up into my ankle. My podiatrist is of no help. It started shortly after I changed from taking remicade to Humira. Suggestions anyone

Sounds like it could be plantar fasciitis, which is fairly common in people with PsA. I hope you figure it out soon - losing the ability to walk isn't fun!

I have foot pain but mine is forefoot primarily. I was tentatively diagnosed with tarsal tunnel syndrome. More new and exciting things. For me, it means that I need to speak to my rheumy, as there are too many things that have crept back in, and new symptoms, and I'm not too sure the Enbrel is really working.

Physical therapy referral for you?

I have foot pain, bad foot pain. It was blown off for far too long. By the time I was diagnosed and the specialists sorted me out, I had very serious and permanent mid-foot damage. I can walk only short distances, and stand for only short periods of time.

This is an issue for your rheumatologist: if your pain is caused by inflammation, that inflammation can damage the structures in your foot. Please be more insistent than I was about getting it sorted out. (Something like an MRI or some kinds of ultrasound can help your doctor guage the extent and degree of inflammation in your foot.) Your podiatrist isn’t the person to help, other than being able to build orthotics for you that will support your painful feet.

Hips and knees can be replaced, but damaged feet are extremely difficult to repair. Please insist that your foot pain be thoroughly investigated and treated as aggressively as possible.

I feel really lucky about that. I've had horrible foot pain in the past, and still foot pain in the forefoot and tops of my feet. I think it's a result of all the neuropathy I've had. I can't walk far distances, either. But, for instance, yesterday my left foot hurt bad enough that I finally thought to put a Salonpas patch on it. I put one on my butt, too, for the nerve pain there. Anyway, my foot stopped hurting! My butt didn't, though. I think the Salonpas patch on my foot got to the pain easier because there's not so much fat to get through. My butt, on the other hand, is quite chubby. I think that's why the patch couldn't reach that pain. IDK if you've tried those patches, but they do work for some types of pain.

I agree with Seenie!!! I have zero feeling in the arch of my foot due to damage caused pre-diagnosis when docs were blowing off my issues. When I had nerve conduction testing done, the doctor thought the computer froze when they tested the arch of my left foot because it didn't register on her machine at all - in her 20+ years doing these tests, she'd never had that happen with someone who was still able to walk. If one doc isn't taking you seriously, find one who will.

I too am experiencing extreme foot pain. I have been on Humira for three months now. I started taking it after Enbrel stopped working for me. My foot pain is in my heels, tendons and upper toes. During the time I stopped Enbrel so that I could start taking Humira (was taking nothing) I couldn't walk at all. After taking my first injection of Humira I regained walking ability but now, three months later, I am having trouble walking again. I am not pleased with the effectiveness of Humira. I was told to give it 2-3 months or longer. But I don't know how much longer I can take this. I have had to start taking prescription pain meds that help somewhat with the pain but I still have problems walking. I will look into the Salonpas patch - I hadn't heard of them before now. I also did not know the irreparable damage that could be caused by this - good to know. Thanks for sharing this good info!

It is very hard for me to walk sometimes!! I have chronic pain in my feet and in my back. I have a very bad limp also, and have a cane I use at times. Each day I say to myself what next.

My foot pain has been causing me to limp, too. Yes, Browneyes, it does seem that nearly every day there is a new surprise pain. Although, I hate to complain too much because Enbrel is helping relieve a lot of the old pain.

Well after how many months since I started this discussion, I finally got some x-rays taken and found out that my arthritis has traveled down not only into my foot, but my toes have a lot of destruction there. I went to my orthopedic doc, and he is giving me cortisone shots in my ankle every 3 months which helps so I can walk without pain shooting from my ankle down to my toes, I also switched back to Remicade, which is stronger and helps me much more than Humira.

I also want to say that I feel so bad for all of you that have this terrible disease. I am a christen and I pray to God for us all to help us thru this trial, and pray that some day, he will reward us for this our suffering.
