So I think I may have tennis elbow. I have been having pain in my elbow region when lifting and extending and moving it in certain fashions. Its different from the arthritis pain but this has been going on for almost three months and does not appear to be going away. Is this a common thing? Should I go to my doctor? Help please.
Hey Spirits,
I have the same thing going on...I originally thought I pulled a muscle in my left elbow area. Then, after a week or so it went away. About a month after that, I had the same thing happen to my right elbow area. I thought I pulled a muscle again because both times I was doing WAY more than normal. I could tell it was muscle or tendon related. It was pretty bad for a few months. Now it comes and goes but, not bad. I'm pretty certain it is a tendon.
It's not a bad idea to ask your Dr. I'm not that smart and have gobs of pain pills already so.....
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Here is an article from my favorite site..American Academy of Ortho surgeons
The ortho/knee guy that did my knee..does shoulders too, he xrayed it, gave me a shot, but mainly stressed PT for it..He has a PT office in his building
It helped the therapy, i got those huge wide, colored , rubber band...tied it up to door know, and arm, slowly did some stretches...and easy exercises....it helped it went away, after a few weeks
def see your doctor, better yet an ortho
good luck

It's not just tennis elbow, it's all sorts of tendon involvement. I've only had a few bouts of tendonitis there, but have lots of tendon involvement throughout my body. It goes with the disease. I have done PT for it at various times, mostly to strengthen the area. But getting my PsA under better control is an important part of the process.
For tendonitis that is going on that long, PT may very well be appropriate, so you will need to see the doctor for that.
Hi - go see your doc - I had tennis elbow on and off for years - lots of physio and cortisone shots from my rhemy, then last year went to an ortho and I had surgery.
Its fixed!
Thanks everyone. I am still unsure of when I should or should not phone my doctor. I hate to be a bug and pester him all the time, I am still new to this illness, I went from pretty much never seeing a doctor to having more visits in 6 months then in my entire life time and need to work out all the ins and outs.
I have both medial and lateral epicondylitis, or tennis and golf elbow. I have a splint I picked up at the pharmacy which has gel pads in it that fit right over the tendons on both sides of the elbow where it hurts. Stoney is so right, tendonitis, and bursitis, is such a big part of this disease. When mine are acting up I know I have irritated them by either over using the elbow with too much bending or more likely too much weight. It reminds me to keep anything I lift under 5 lbs and to ask for help. I also put Salonpas topical patches directly on them. It helps the inflammation abut also reminds me to knock it off. I also exercise them gently in the warm water. Ultimately it means my disease is not under good control yet. I hope this helps!
