Few have escaped the pain involved with SI joint pain, lots of new members who could use your wisdom on this subject! Speak to us o' wise ones!
EXCELLENT topic, SK!
Oddly, I have found that walking up stairs (more than 1 flight) helps some. Must strengthen those core muscles. I've tried and tried the core muscle exercises given by PT and only got more pain and misery from them, so this is a cool way of strengthening them in a way that doesn't kill the joint. Alas, more fatigue but...well, we all know how that one goes.
Ice. Fast, if temporary, relief. Works better than almost anything else, except the Ibuprofin.
Ibuprofin.
Don't know how you can take the ice, Pet, that sends me howling, I am a heating pad baby!! gs1 (oldest grandson, who has been here for a least a week, plans to spend the summer!!!!) was just telling me about a new kind advertised on TV. Someone on the Fibro site was telling me about all different kinds that I have never heard of, sounds like a topic I can begin once I know more about them! ha!
The wise and handsome lamb and Rich came to the rescue earlier, they were magnificent, Petunia!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor SK! I didn't realize that Soujner's/Raynauds affected areas outside of the hands. I had no clue! In fact, I didn't realize that the hands were badly affected until talking to you. How miserable! Do you live in a cold winter state? I hope not!
I saw that you called in the troops, and you were magnificent too, SK!!!! And thank God you jumped in where you did because that conversation desperately needed intercession. I hope that the poster there listens to others because I think she really needs to see a Dr. ASAP.
I haven't found anything yet besides my pain meds to get me through the SI pain. I have had injections; exercises etc. Can't do the steps too much because of the knees..."sigh" Anyway, am glad this subject was brought up and look forward to the wisdom that comes with this group.
Oh Alma,
Rich (you know Rich, the strong, silent one) gave me the best idea yet, the Spinal Stimulation, now as I have mentioned before, that is NOT as sexy as it sounds! Mine had been just KILLING me since being out in the cold and damp at the Carnival, took Opana last night and went out like a light at the computer, grandson ran for Pap, he got me up, fell asleep in the BR on the toliet, got back on here and fell asleep over the computer once again finally Hubby dragged me to bed and told me to stay there!LOL!! Had to use that SGT. tone, you know good ole army voice command!!!
Anyway, back is still bad, stinkin' weather is just too cold, too damp, too many storms brewing! Gonna be another Opana night too!! Look Out!!
Sure do, I live in MD, it has been cold here from all the storms!! BR!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL SK I can see you sleeping on the computer. Good thing your grandson was there watching out for you. I am not familiar with Opana but sounds like I would like to have some. I have an appt with an ortho on Friday to consult about my back per my rheumy referring. My xrays show the discs are slipping forward. We will see what happens, maybe he will have some ideas for relief.
I suppose the first response that popped into my mind isn't helpful....it was "cry." LOL
I have partially fused si joints. One is mostly fused. One is slightly less fused. It's not pleasant.
I balance movement and rest - too much of each is a bad thing. I use two canes when I walk when my si joints are bad, and if I'm using my chair, I stand up and stretch often (which confuses people, which I find amusing :) ).
I'm a huge fan of rice socks: you take a men's tube sock, fill it about halfway with rice, add a little lavender or your favorite essential oil if you'd like, and tie the end closed. You should be able to flatten out the rice sock at least a bit. You microwave it to heat it up - just make sure you don't make it too hot. Every morning my husband gets up, heats up my rice sock, sticks it on my SI joints, and goes about his morning. Every night he does the same when I go to bed. I'm seriously considering getting a small microwave for next to my bed!!!
I've found that many of the exercises that help pregnant women's hips feel better help with SI joint pain....if you can get into the positions required for them, such as on all fours, arching your back, then relaxing it.
Chiropractic has worked for me, as has craniosacral therapy (unfortunately, I can't afford either right now).
Hi nym,
Oh yes, 'cry' pops into my head quite often about SI joints too!
I had to look up Craniosacral Therapy, was not familiar with it, have never been to an Osteopath, sounds really interesting.
Wanted to tell you that a magnatron tube by your head all night is not the greatest of ideas, after these mw s get a few years on them they can leak, some of the new cheap ones leak, some real health nuts or people with extreme illness will not even have one in their home, because of the leaks! Keep the microwaves in the kitchen and don't let them get too old!
That info was partially from major appliance training and also from going through Prostate Cancer with my husband.
Enjoy your time off as much as you can!
SK

I have been getting cortisone injections in my SI joints for years, even before they thought of PsA as part of the problem. My pain specialist does these every 3 or 4 months. These injections do help. Also, heat seems to help me, I have a microwaveable heating pad that is my best friend! GOOD LUCK....it's not a fun experience!!!
