Curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Monday I developed a coexisting migraine + tension headache (I often have had tension headaches trigger migraines, sometimes repeatedly if I can’t get rid of the tension headache) and have spent the previous two days trying to get rid of the tension headache I was left with. Today seems much better, and I’m not really sure of the cause of the last three days headaches (I’m guessing one of three possibilities 1) inflammation in my neck, 2) Otezla, 3) someone fiddled with my desk height). This morning I used some Voltaren gel on my neck, but I also took my B12 and fixed my desk height (in the interest of covering all basis because three days with a killer headache was all I could handle) and it seems much much better. I did notice a lot of heat in the back of my neck (and it’s still a bit hot and achey/stiff), which makes me suspect some Inflammation, but there’s a bit of a chicken and egg problem in that I’m not sure if it was a result of Monday’s migraine or partial cause. I’m also not 100% certain that my desk height was changed or that it’s the Otezla. There’s also the possibility that it is unrelated entirely - I’m fairly prone to these things, but haven’t really had many migraines since I started my beta blocker (about 6 years ago), and few tension headaches, and for most of them I could pinpoint the cause easily (too much computer time, old glasses prescriptions, etc).
In any case, I’d be interested in hearing if anyone else has had similar experiences and what, if anything, you’ve found to help relieve them or prevent them.
I wish I had something to help… but I just want to say I totally get the struggle trying to figure out which of the 100 different things going on is actually causing the pain/problem… or if it’s a combination… or none of them and it’s something else completely…
Should get a wheel I can spin
Lol.
I had a pretty bad round of neck inflammation a headaches at the same time (though who knows if the neck actually caused the headaches, because I got some later again without the neck, but anyway, I digress).
The thing I found best was to put a wheat pack in the freezer, then lie horizontally with the wheat pack under my neck so my spine was neutral.
Wheat pack because it is most flexible and comfortable to do this with, if you don’t have one, get a hand towel or tea towel wet, wring it out, fold it into a rectangle, and put it in the freezer. At a pinch, a clean thick woolen sock will do
I found that the compression on my neck from sitting, standing, walking, enormously exacerbated things, so even if I could lie down for ten or 20 mins with neck support every couple of hours it would help prevent breakthrough pain and exacerbation of the headaches.
I hope it gets better for you soon, I find acute spinal inflammation is its own kind of hell!
@Jen75 Yes! At the worst on my migraine combo headache Monday I found I couldn’t stand to have my head on a pillow, and had to lay flat on my back. I’ll have to give it a try after work and see if it seems to help any (I think everyone would look at my funny it I just popped down on the floor at my desk, lol!). The Voltaren gel seems to be helping some, so I’m almost sure it’s inflammation.
I’ve also got some rice heating packs (though they also make nice ice packs) so I’ll have to put one under my neck and see how it goes.
Thanks!
Ive been getting occasional tension headaches and sore neck for a long time. i guess its probably due to PsA, now that I know about it.
Start with your posture when dealing with tension headaches that may be from your neck. It can only help to use good posture while you’re dealing with this.
