Interesting research on cardiovascular risk with Ps

Dr. Metha is using a PET scan to check for inflammation in the arteries and organs, he has found that the worse the Ps is the higher chances of diminished lifespan due to cadiovascular diseases. This would also possibly explain the overlap PsA has with diseases like Erythromyalgia and other vascular conditions. Of course it will take 20 years before they agree on anything, and I will be dead by then…

I have read similar findings on people with RA. Other readings seem to indicate an increased risk with any type of auto-immune problem.

Of course, I’m sure the stress from the chronic pain plays no part in this. (NOT)

Can’t win.

Probably we can’t ‘win’ but sometimes we just need to worry about the stuff just happening now rather than worrying what might be. that’s enough for now isn’t it?

As will most of the rest of us too.

This report didn’t show the images he did, I will see if I can find them, it is compared to a normal image, looks kind of like a nuclear bone scan, a lot of inflammation around the major arteries and organs. Seems like it would be a good diagnostic tool for testing how well the biologics are working. Someday, when the sluggish research dept gets around to it, then another 20 years for the insurance companies to buy into it…

Here is the image of the scan, to bad I don’t have the original…
I will try to post, but photobucket wants money form me…

The article is over my head, but I had a right coronary artery blockage a year ago for which I had a stent placed. I’m not sure if this was somehow related to my having PsA and all the inflammation that goes with it, or just heredity. Both a sister and brother had heart attacks–sister at 51 and brother at 62–neither of them has PsA (I was 62 when I had the blockage).
Sure is interesting, though, and I wouldn’t even doubt if inflammatory disease can cause or be associated with heart disease. Before I went on Enbrel when my inflammation became unbearable, I kept feeling like it was affecting my heart. The feeling is hard to describe, but I did feel like my heart couldn’t take it much longer!
