Heated chair

My wife is planning on buying new furniture. As long as we are going to spend some money, I'm wondering if a heated recliner would make my idle time a bit more comfortable. I think the massage portion of these types of chairs is a joke but I'm thinking the heated section might be helpful.

Do any of you have one of these? Does it help with back pain? If you have one, what is the brand/model?

What an interesting idea! We have a thing that you put on a chair, that does massage and heat. For that, I don't find that it provides much heat. Definitely try it out before you buy. I don't know if the full chairs provide much more heat. Have fun shopping!

If you find a recliner that "fits", you like, and the wife will allow into the living room I want to personally shake your hand and recommend you for a presidential medal. Even after 40 years, I would sooner do something fun like get a root canal than go furniture shopping.

I think it would be a great idea. My buddy has overstuffed heated leather seats in his truck. More than once, he has taken me for a ride to destress. All the little adjustments etc are amazing. My number 3 son is a body man snagged me one for the rec room. THAT didn't work out. (and it was a lot of work to set up)Anyway it was a chevy, I haved heated seats in my Dodge but they don't get warm enough. I think thecwhole bench seat would be cool with cup holders and the little console for your remotes you'd be set. Good Luck if headqurters approves of any chair you like, you are married to a saint...........

Actually, the purchasing department has already approved this investment. I just need to find one that fits my needs and really works. My lovely bride is an RN, BSN, MBA with an emphasis on healthcare, so she has been trying to understand what I have been and will be going through. Looked at Lazy Boy but they run about $1K. THAT'S not going to happen......

I hear you. I get by with a higher end heating psd ( they are thinner) and a heated throw.

I would suggest what ever you get, have them but it on a swivel. Until you move into a swivel chair, you have no clue how much time you spend twisting or turning. .........

What type of heating pad does everyone recommend? I have heated seats in my car and they are really nice but would like one for at home.

I have had friends who bought those very expensive and fancy recliners....after a month they never really enjoyed it. As to heat, i would think that electric throw would be better because you can adjust the heat and place it over areas where you need it most instead of everywhere.

I do have the winter package in my car so seats heat and i agree it is heaven on cold wintery days!! You can buy heating pads for car seats that either run off batteries or hook into the lighter. I have not tried those or know of anyone so cannot say how they work compared to installed ones. I imagine you could use the battery kind in a chair at home as well!

I use a electric throw plus a TENs unit at home. I prefer it to microwave mainly due to the smell of other filler most use for microwave ones...not lavender stuff but other filler product just stinks to me! i given away most except ones that you can freeze since freezing does not create icky smell.

I like the throws or pads because if you have RA as well which i do, i can avoid putting heat on those places since often heat makes the pain worse especially if swollen. I also like how i can adjust the electric throws, pads or blankets and all will automatically shut off. Huge plus since i tend to fall asleep with them and rather they did not keep running as you can get too warm.

TENS units also really help with the electric throws. You can buy them on Amazon or any store like it. I bet even some larger pharmacies carry them in their stores. Since they are not very expensive, i try a few because what i discovered is how they vibrate is different...especially if they advertise to help with various parts of your body. Try all the different modes on any places not just where they say and place pads in different places to find the spot that works best for your body.

Between them and heating throw, i use a lot less pain medication!! If you like sitting in recliners and would like heat from behind as well you might buy two throws...one behind and one on top of you? or electric blanket to wrap around you.

Hope these ideas help....i personally have tried my friends recliners ...one was over $ 3000 and as to helping pain...was a joke! So really try them first especially if costly. But heated winter car seats....winner!! Oh and steering wheel heats up as well!! helps so much with hands that are stiff from cold!

My concern about throws/pads is that from what I understand they are not designed to be put under your body. My main pain issues (for now, at least) are my SI joints and spine between my shoulder blades. Not too comfortable laying on your stomach with something on your back while trying to enjoy a movie or similar.

Walmart.con has heated throws for about $20. I hope you find something that works for you. Frances

Not true (completley.) But if you want a bit of heaven get a heated matress pad and put it on a 2 inch foam mattress topper.................

I have an electric recliner which helps me to get out of it. My dad's car has heated seats and they feel Wonderful. I would say go for it.

I actually bought a heated recliner a few years ago. The store didn't have the model I wanted without heat, so the salesman threw it in with the deal. It was a mid-priced chair (about $600) by a respected manufacturer whose name I can't remember right now (they're out of business). I took the chair home thinking I would never use the heat or massage, but hubby plugged it in anyway, with the "You never know" argument. Finally, out of curiosity, I tried it. I was right about the massage--it was never used again. But the heat--oh my gosh. It was wonderful. No more fumbling with a heating had or trying to get it positioned in exactly that spot. The chair is spot on. I could vary the heat intensity and the chair limited heating time to 30 minutes.

I laid claim to the recliner--no one else in the house would dare use that chair! lol I used the heat function so much that I feared it would stop working because of overuse. Finally, after about six years, it did finally die--the chair is still good, but the cord to plug it in frayed. I am working on getting that fixed. I miss my heated chair! I have been looking for a replacement, but, like everything else, they seem to be much more expensive now. Bottom line--I absolutely would purchase another one with heat. One of the best gadgets out there!

Massage part is fantastic also for me. One fro Brookstone I can vouch for.

Last year I bought a heated throw and what a complete waste of money that was!! None of the electric wires and heating elements inside the throw were sewn into place...It was like a pile of wires in a pillow case....Impossible to get it to stay in one place and get it to cover your aching areas. I used it once and that was all. I did read that they DO make throws where the heating elements are sewn into place. I don't know where those are sold but definitely not at Walmart.

Lamb, I have a wingback chair that is lovely, comfortable, and a recliner. Looks like a great chair, hides the best recliner in the world. Your wife might approve?

Sherm, this is MY topic! I love all things heated, especially heated massaging recliners. I have used some awesome recliners with heat and massage. Look for stores like Brookstone where you’d an actually try them out. I am squirreling my pennies for one and hope to make the addition next Xmas. For now, I have a heated massaging chair pad that works okay. It was well worth the 140 we paid for it, and I ùse it daily. If you want specs on brands, I will look it up for you.

Qdosh-there are wonderful heated throws out there. I own two. The heating cords are sewn in place and the blanket are super soft, non-pilling covers. I got the first one for me, and it kept disappearing. That was not on the label! So I bought another one that I stash just for me. They were originally about $100, but I found them at Tuesday Morning on sale for $35. Then I found one for our king bed with dual table side controls for about $50. They have been wonderful, and this is their second winter in our home.

I appreciate all of the answer you folks have provided. The closest Brookstone store is about 100 miles away. I looked at the chairs on their website and they are WAYYYYYY out of my price range. Hopefully I'll be able to find something local.

Good Morning, Sherm!

After reading this, I started researching chairs again. The one I want is out of my price range too, which is why it's taking me so long to get it, so I thought I would look again to see if I could find something less expensive, but good. There are a number of chairs available on Amazon that have extensive customer reviews and testimonials. That might be a good place to look. The pricing is also very good. I was able to locate a highly rated chair for under $1000 that I think will work for me just as well as the Brookstone chair I had my eye on, and I will definitely be able to get it sooner. It doesn't have ALL of the bells and whistles that I was looking for, but based on the reviews, I really think it will work well. It's even built for short people (like me)!

Later today, I can send you the link for the heated massaging chair pad that I use now if you are interested. I like it a lot. PROs:

Heats nicely, has multiple massage modes,

will do "spot" massage, addresses 3 areas: Lumbar, upper back, and neck,

remote control,

long outlet cable,

vibrating and heating cushion,

price was around $140 on Amazon

It's small enough to stash away when we have company. It weights about 10-15 pounds.

CONs:

It sort of hurts when I first started using it, after a few days of 15 minute sessions- it started to feel really good. Its no longer uncomfortable to use unless I take a few days off from it,

no way to clean the cover,

rollers are a little tall for short people but I made it work.

Yes, I would appreciate that link. We have a cabin in northern Wisconsin that I could use this pad at once I find a chair. Thanks!!!!!

There is an amazing Brookstone in the Venetian in Yegas. I have a ball playing in their expanded back section. Maybe a boys field trip if you don't get the hunting camp thing worked out. Although my boys brought my chair to hunting camp last year.
