Happy New Year and these @#$% wrists!

Hope everyone's 2014 is off to a good start!

Not sure how well mine has started -- I'm going to just lay it out there and admit that I'm afraid my wrists are causing carpal tunnel problems. I know I shouldn't attempt to diagnose myself, but I'm waking up every morning with hands completely numb. My hands go to sleep all the time during the day. They're just problematic in general, not including the pain that's pretty standard.

So I have a checkup appt on the 8th, and I guess I'll see what the doc thinks. Maybe this accounts for how cold my hands tend to be, as well. This is very, very new -- I've always, always had hot hands until the past few months. Now my boss razzes me for wearing gloves while I do my work, and really, gloves have been the most important winter clothing item of all -- which is really new, because in the past I usually wore no gloves at all, and my hands would be fiercely warm even then.

What I did not know was that -- carpal tunnel or not -- this is really irritating. I HATE that my hands are always going dead. I'm constantly "waking up" my hands, and it's getting on my nerves, not to coin a pun or anything. JUST STOP.

Otherwise -- ahem -- things aren't so bad around here. My dad had a lovely 90th birthday. My mom's fall a week ago did not cause any serious damage. Work is pretty good, busy as always. My fur babies are rambunctious and loving. Had a major car issue that turned out to be pretty easily fixed and not horribly expensive.

With regard to the possible carpal crap -- at the very least, I do have more than 3 months of sick leave stored up. So if something has to be done about the problem -- I'm vehemently not interested in surgery unless there are no other options -- at least I have paid leave available for it.

Y'all have a good one.

You mentioned that they are cold. . . Could it be Raynauds? You have an appointment coming up nice and soon, so no point in conjecturing. Although there are some simple tests that can be done even at home to diagnose carpal tunnel sydrome.

If it's carpal tunnel, there are non-surgical options to run through, including night-time splints, cortisone shots, etc.

Rambunctious and loving sounds about perfect with your fur babies. . . Dogs? Actually, that describes one of my cats too, and he's 8 yrs old already. Never outgrew his adolescence.

Happy New Year to you, and I wish you the best with figuring out what's going on.

Oh, just a follow up. . . I often wear arm warmers rather than gloves for indoor use. I find that they do the job with my Raynauds, and are somewhat less intrusive. My newest ones are from etsy at https://www.etsy.com/transaction/156655802?ref=fb2_tnx_title

They have knit cotton and lightweight fleece ones, and I liked their price.

"Now my boss razzes me for wearing gloves while I do my work"

As long as the gloves aren't affecting your work, I don't see why it's a problem. It almost sounds a bit like harassment.

I hope you get things figured out.
