Fusion, surgery and other yucky things

I get it. I talked to a neurosurgeon about my neck last year, before I knew I had PsA. He didn't recommend surgery at this time. He's conservative. Explained all the pros and cons. He does 2 or 3 neck fusions and disc replacements every week. It sounded like it took away a lot of the pain. But I understand the whole "wear and tear" of the disc above and below the fusion, etc. He said that people can still play tennis/golf with even a 3 disc fusion. (Which is what he would do with me if he did do the surgery.) I'm not in that much pain actually. Wonder how much of my osteo issues are caused by the psoriatic?

If everything was lined up just right...... Imagine surgical fusion as going to the chiropractor only permanent. Back in the day, I had more than one adjustment that seemed right at the time......... but I was back the next day for a little fine tuning...... What if that surgeon is off just a skosh?????? fusion from disease often does leave one pain free. At lesst thats what the body thinks its doing.........

Great points, Lamb. I learn a great deal from your posts. Thank you. But didn't you say in another thread that if your bones fuse from disease - it actually takes away pain? I thought I had read that. So with that argument, wouldn't surgical fusion take away pain too?

heres a real nifty pic of a new doodad that may be a game changer. They can actually go in and adjust it (for a while eventually it covers with bone.... personally I've been accused of having a a screw loose a time or two so I'd want Loc-tite in the screws but anyway they can adjust fron to back, side to side the spacing etc etc There are two of the rods:

LOL! Wow! I never saw that before!
