Thank you so much for the warm welcome to the group. I've been living with this disease for quite a while - It took over 10 years to diagnose, but fortunately, I was under treatment all that time for - Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disorder. However, even with the treatment, the disease is slowly getting worse. Nothing I've tried seems to stop the slow progression, although the Simponi seems to be helping the fatigue. My feet hurt now all the time. Ive had 2 surgeries on my feet already for the planter fasciitis - and both were successful - but nothing seems to help this chronic, nagging ache in the ankles and through out the bones in my feet. I'm working really hard on trying to exercise, but it is difficult with the foot pain. I was wondering if anyone in the group has any suggestions for the ankle swelling and foot pain other than the Achilles and the planter tendons?
I wish I had a remedy....I have the same situation. Pain is worst in my hands, wrists, ankles, achilles tendons, plantar area and toes. I do stretches to keep my calves from getting so tight - that seems to help a bit with the achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis. I stand on a step or the stairs and drop my heel down as far as I can. This stretches the calf as well as the foot. It's not a miracle, but it helps make some days more bearable. I have also gotten rid of every shoe that no longer feels comfortable and have invested in good shoes. I mostly wear Dansko clogs all the time. Good supporting shoe.
Hi, Susan
I know, it's hard to exercise when the feet hurt. And like you, mine hurt all the time, even in bed. My problem used to be mainly in the mid foot, but now the pain seems to have spread to the ankles and the balls of my feet. I don't like to think where my feet might be headed.
Elevating my feet helps, as does staying off them. (My rheumy said I was to avoid "foot time" as much as I could until I got a consult with a foot guy to rule out charcot's neuropathy. That was four months ago.)
My footwear of choice at the moment is crocs. I hate them, but at least they don't hurt my tender feet. Speaking of shoes, I'm grateful to my podiatrist, who walked me through (;-) shoe selection and gave me an excellent set of orthotics. Unfortunately, the orthotics now hurt with my advancing disease.
I haven't had surgeries yet, and my hands are pretty much OK. I'm quite aware that this could change any day and I am grateful that I can still keyboard, type and cook.
Take good care!
Seenie
Hi Susan, My feet started to get better after wearing a pair of Monroe's with super feet insoles. The shoes were a Mary Jane type, with a short, stacked heal. I think the name of the shoe was "Danielle". Of course, they don't make them now, but something about that type of heal made my own heels feel better. Hope this helps! Lisa
