Ear ache- TMJ

Hey!!
Today I woke up with a terrible ear ache… Went to drs and said I have TMJ! Is this common with Psa !? Still new to all of this!! Urgh!!

Jess- This seems to be a common complaint. You can search the discussion for more on this. There are things that you can do to lessen some of this. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi jess I have TMJ started with pain in my jaw couldn’t work out where it was coming from at first as it started near my ear and my whole face seemed to be aching and really painful the right side of my jaw swelled up it got so bad that I had a 1.2 cm opening gap and had to eat soup with a teaspoon as I couldn’t open my mouth it took so long to eat the soup that it went cold I lost a stone in two weeks. It swelled that bad that the rheumy sent me for an X-ray as he thought my jaw was dislocated but it was not eventually after about 7 months of pain he injected steroids directly into the jaw joint this helped a lot with the pain and swelling my jaw still does not open properly but opens enough to eat my food properly my jaw now constantly clicks and makes crunching noises every time I eat my food or move my jaw but I am so glad that the pain has gone as I didn’t even speak unless I had to because the pain was soo bad x

My jaw joints are involved just like most of my other joints. I go through periods of very painful jaw joint / swelling / stiffness. Then it improves when the inflammation goes down. I find heat packs on my jaw joints help A LOT, especially in the morning when things are the most stiff and painful.

I don't have TMJ (which is more of a jaw misalignment) but do have PsA induced jaw joint problems.
