Can't sleep

It’s been rough, in bed all day yesterday throwing up because of the methotrexate, the Doctor has now called in the injection form. It’s 4:30 am and can’t sleep, I think I have a sinus infection now. Things just aren’t getting any better.

I'm sorry. I hope things start to turn for you soon.

I hope you get better soon Hope

Oh dear ! That sounds dreadful. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Hope, I know how u feel, I’ve been on methotrexate since 2006/7, it makes u nauseous but my problem is alopecia, my scalp has large areas showing where the hairs fallen out! Sorry you feel so ill! Kathryn

Hi Hope, going on to injections may well reduce the nausea. It helped me a bit but in the end I just had to say to my rheumy enough is enough, methotrexate and I are incompatible!

Hi Hope, I couldn't handle Methotrexate so my doc took me off it. You may also be one of those people who can't handle it. My doc was undesrtanding and took me off it quite quickly, but I understand some docs want to keep their patients on MTX regardless of the horrible side effects. I'm only saying this because you may, if you decided you want to, need to push your doc to take you off it.

Wishing you the best,

Frances

I am on the injections as well. It is an improvement over the pills. But lately I have been having the same issues with the injections. But I think it is nerve issue upsetting my stomach. I am headed for surgery for a disc herniation repair for the second time on the same disc. I have a hard time sleeping as well. Most of the time it is from the anticipated pain of laying down and knowing that mornings are just plain rough. Try sipping hot water with lemon and honey (use just enough to flavor the water to your liking) it will help with the sinus issue and will help to relax you. I sleep with a vaporizer running all night. Remember that having a flare of PSA is like having the Flu, it stresses the body and you get tired. You will end up sleeping during the day and not sleeping well during the night. Some times I sleep more than I feel I should but my body will not let me do anything else.

I hope you find relief soon.

Sorry to hear you are so sick, Hope… Maybe the IM Methotrexate will help, since it bypasses the GI system. I am horribly allergic to it myself… If it isn’t the right med for you, there are alternatives. Good luck!

Thanks everyone.

Hope, I’m sorry you’ve been unwell. Just wanted to let you know I use the injectable with no problems. Maybe it will work for you!? You don’t know until you try. Hopefully you can rest today.

Ugh. Sounds horrible. I hate fighting nausea. I usually take prescription promethazine which has the added benefit that it sends me to sleep! Feel better. This too shall pass.

I have been on Methotrexate in the past for another medical condition. I did mine by injection and never had a moment of nausea unlike my friends who took it orally. They were sick weekly the day after taking it. I'm concerned about your mentioning the infection. I think that this drug calls for you to stop taking it if you have an infection going. Might be worth calling the doctor to check out. Good luck. My heart goes out to you, my sister, and all the rest that are suffering from this terrible condition.

Hey Hope.

so very sorry to read you are feeling so crummy. I felt the same way for the first month on the MTX ( last month). It is getting a better and I am going to ask for the injections as well. I chalked mine up to - my bodies fighting a really big fight. I just had to lay back and let it happen. I know it isn't at all fun, but it took a long time to get that seriously ill and it takes time to get better. It's been six weeks for me now and the improvements are beginning to show . It was worth it! :)

I haven't slept well in three years. So I did a little research.. it turns out nerve pain has a lot to do with that issue as well. Mine is starting to get better as the weeks roll by and I am able to get a little more of my old activities in. I think that may have something to do with my issues. I needed to be able to move. With the help of some good PT and the MTX it is starting to feel like I can be me again .... it is going to take a long time however. I did not get in this shape in a few weeks or a few months so it's going to take the time to adjust and heal as much as I can. I also had to accept that this is a forever thing. There is no magic pill that will make me well tomorrow no matter how much my family wants one or how many tears I could cry. Please hon... give the MTX time and realize your body is fighting a BIG fight and it is doing it's job. I know it's hard but you can do this for you!!!!!

The 2;30 a.m. crowd is fun, I joined that one along about New Years 2012. I like to think of it as my alone time. I do a lot of reading it helps keep your mind off of the creepy/achy feeling in your nerves. Sherlock Holmes is good for something!! :)

hugs whenever you need them

Can you explain to me how to do the injections? I totally forgot to ask my Doctor?

I’ve been on this since December though. I have a Doctor appointment tomorrow morning for the infection which they are saying is viral and not a sinus infection but I’ve had them before so I know it’s a sinus infection.

The injections are easy and don't hurt at all. You just squeeze a little fat from your belly and inject it. I had to do the injection once a week and was taught how to measure out the amount by a pharmacist.

How can it not hurt? It’s not that small of a needle.

I don't remember the needles being large. You might call the pharmacy and verify that you got the correct size needle and/or if you can have smaller ones. I've done injections of Methotrexate and also blood thinner in my tummy and because they are going into the fat of the stomach, they really don't hurt. You will get used to doing it and it won't be a big deal after awhile.

It doesn’t hurt as much as you think it would, because you are placing the needle in fat.

You will be surprised in a nice way Hope
