Brain workout

I've been feeling very mentally dull recently. I know fatigue, brain fog, and not being at work presently are adding to this, so I've started playing games of scramble, boggle and reversi along with getting back in the pool to help the old bod.

We often discuss the benefits of physical exercise for musculoskeletal conditions but what do you do to exercise "the old grey matter?"

Hi Louise,

I recently learned, if I am tired my brain does not work. I can't put my words together, say the wrong words, forget even what I was say in mid sentence.

If I'm having one of those days, I just rest as much as possible. I hope this helps.

I play word and number games on my Nook. I find it easy to work with than paper. On "hard" days I play on the easiest levels. I also keep some easier reading books on there for those days so I don't feel like I am letting my brain wither away. By adjusting the settings I can make it easier on my eyes

i do the New York Times crossword every morning. Well I say "do it" but more accurately I should say I attempt it. I'm usually good through Thursday then I don't do so well. I'm good at doing Sunday's but it usually takes all week! And I find Sudoku keeps me focused. Most every game I play is some kind of puzzle. Lastly, meditation. Noting better for cleaning out the fog.

unless you just fall asleep. I had to give up on meditation

because I usually just fall asleep when I try

I have to say folks that I am thinking that, like our bodies, our brains do need stretching and exercise too. I’m feeling better in myself, it could be that I’m getting better from this flare and am now able to cope with more mental and physical challenges or maybe the challenges are helping me improve. Either way I’m definitely better  I used to play scrabble with my mother and she would beat me more often than not, because of that I feel I have to play on the “hard” level on my kindle and have surprised myself in beating the “droid”…it’s not as crafty as my mother! Lol
I’m getting beaten at reversi (which I’m new to but) I’m going to master it!
Although I love word games, and am an avid reader, crosswords and word searches make me sleepy. I feel that the tai chi I do is a bit like meditation as it leaves me calm, unstressed, and happy

I definitely agree that tiredness doesn’t help. When I’ve had trouble sleeping I’m good for nothing!
