I sometimes get this and wondered if it has anything to do with PsA, or is it just me? :)
It's PsA. The good, no, great news, is that it improves with medication to control the PsA.
Brill! Thank you. :)
Early on in this 'journey' I couldn't do much so tried writing short stories. But I'd sit gazing into space, unable to find the right word. I don't think it was ordinary writer's block & it came as a shock. I think I still have more difficulties with word retrieval than I used to, but I'm now as sharp as I ever was in most respects, i.e. not very.
All that bothers me somewhat now is waking up feeling more disorientated than I think I should. Like a hangover without the fun part.
The tough truth is that PsA affects the whole body and the mind. I've tried denying that, but have come to accept it. That's not to say that it necessarily wrecks them. I reckon it's all about minimising the effects and working round them.
Thank you. :)
The answer is “absolutely”! Fatigue, depression and brain fog are the sidekicks of PsA pain. I’m guessing that it’s something to do with inflammation in your brain. As Sybil says, this disease can affect your whole body and every organ. And as Jules says, with good treatment you will notice great improvemet.
I had brain fog for so long that I figured I was just over the hill. A year of trying this treatment and that changed nothing. Then I started on a biologic med, and within days I would have little “whiffs” of the fog and fatigue lifting before settling in again. My first improvements ere in fog and fatigue, followed much later by pain relief. Oh, it’s a strange disease, this one.
Just for fun, give the search feature a go: very top right of page. Key in “brain fog” and see how many hits you get.
The two people who commented above, Sybil and Seenie, seem to be very witty, intelligent and funny. They don't have brain fog. Or, maybe it's just that they were so smart to begin with that their foggy brains are still sharper than my not-foggy brain!
But, yes, Coton Boy, you can chalk that annoying symptom up to PsA. Word retrieval has also been a, uh, er, challenge for me. When I'm doing a word document I use thesaurus, which helps a lot.....
There have been a few times my brain was so foggy I couldn't remember the year (and it wasn't January, either!)! One time, I couldn't even remember how to do my job I was so confused--that's when brain fog is downright scary! But, most of the time it's low-level and sometimes I just have to admit that my "brain fog" is really just me--not the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree! Haha
My son confessed he had worried about dementia in me. I use to be sharp as a tack. He was reassured that my dementia seems to come and go. It coincides, I believe with when my disease is very active and when the activity is lower. It also coincides with pain. When I am in a lot of pain I can’t think we’ll but then when I take a Vicodin I am much cleare. Sort of surprising, I expected the Vicodin to make me dopey. I am on Stelara. It is the sixth biological I have tried and the first one to work pretty well. I take it every 3 months. I am clear within 2 weeks of taking it and right before another shot is due. But the middle month I have a lot of pain, fatigue and brain fog. It is not perfect but much more relief than I have previously had.
