Once in while--maybe 4 tmes a day...suddenly a limb will leap up in the air or it will be like a massive twitch of a body part...It's sudden and quite a violent motion. Does any one else have this?
I just started doing this again. I can feel it build in my back and then bam, a leg or foot or arm just spasms. I had been free of this for about six months and was hoping it would not come back. Does yours get worse when you are at rest or reclining?
I have had occasional muscle spasm's in the past, no leaping limbs.
This seems to happen to me when I'm relaxing. Not so bad when it happens in bed but I'm taking a meditation class and it happens there, too. Always a bit of a surprise!
this used to happen to me on a regular basis before I started intense treatment with biologics & methotrexate. I used to notice it most when I was resting. I havent had it happen in a while.
yes it does happen when I'm more at rest.I just started a biologic and methotrexate once again so hopefully soon I should see it diminish always afraid it will happen in public because it would be very embarrassing..tthank you for all your replies.
I thought about this post last night while I was in restorative yoga. I jerked my legs clear off the wall I had them resting on at one point. Happened again in another position. It also happened in seated meditation group last Thursday. Oh well...
So odd to hear that you are all having this too. I thought it was a personal
"quirk" and just asked my question for the heck of it....I does sound as though it is a consequence of the PsA.
Thanks for all of your replies.
Yes it happens to me too. Glad to hear I am not alone
yep.. i thought i was just weird.. lol... oh well .. another, yet quirky symptom... as long as we dont kick our spouse out of bed.. right?
I have actually had to move to my mom cave some nights because of this. Apparently I have thrown him on the floor on more than one occasion. Thank goodness he laughs and grumps his way back under the covers.:) Reumy visit soon, hope he prescribes something that helps. It"s rather embarrassing when I throw things at people. It always opens the floor for a good joke however!!
LOL. Yesterday I had an MRI of my neck. I started to doze off...and then, whoops! my leg jerked. The tech reprimanded me and reminded me to remain still...So sorry but it cannot be helped!!!
I have had spasms but not to that degree...at least not that I recall. I definitely get them more often though.
I think this is just part of the human condition, and has nothing to do with PsA.
You certainly can bring it up to your doctor. It could also just be fatigue related.
Sorry Stoney...I have to respectfully disagree with you. This is no small twitch...It's rapid and a violent motion.Faster and harder than I can replicate on my own. And just going by the number of people who experience this has solidified my belief that somehow this is a symptom.

Okay. As I said, you may want to bring it up with your doctor as this is clearly of concern.

I'll ask both my Reumy and my Neurologist about this and I will dig deeper into the research and let everyone one know what I find out. There is a lot of research study data out there that may contain a few clues and I have the time to read it. Has any one that has these spasms had pustular psoriasis on more than ten percent of your body? This may help to know while I research. I spasmed long before I knew my RA had anything to do with this but I was severely pustular, nearly 90 percent and no insurance. I realize the RA was causing pain now but I did not recognize it at the time because I was itching so horribly. We will get to the bottom of this but it will take time.
Here is something interesting. This was posted earlier in this forum.

Check out the connection with tramadol and seizures. This is the pertinent part:
A few years ago, I was between rheumies and was being treated by a wonderful friend who is a neurologist. Here's what he told me about tramadol. Tramadol lowers the seizure threshold. He says he has had many patients on tramadol just fall over with a seizure for no apparent reason. He cautioned me NEVER to have more than 50 mgs of the drug in my system at a time. In other words, do not take your meds a half hour early. Leave the specified time or more between doses. He said three 50 mg tramadol would be enough to induce seizure in a person with no history of seizure activity. When I saw your meds list, it just made me wonder. Not saying this is what happened, but it might be something to consider. If this is happening with the Paxil, too, you may have just found the answer to why you had the seizure. Good luck; I hope you get this figured out quickly!
the link between tramadol and seizures is interesting However I do not take tramadol..Neither do I have the symtoms of a seizure. These motions are too rapid, there is no mental confusion following them...Although some people taking Tramadol maybe should be concerned...However there is not really anything fearful about these....other than maybe dropping something or tossing a cup of water at somebody LOL.
