This afternoon I walked a Cancer Research UK 5km Race for Life in memory of my friend of some 45+ years, Marianne, who lost a very short battle with colon cancer back in January.
The 5km race circuit took one hour and seventeen minutes at a steady pace and I raised a very pleasing amount of money in sponsorship for this worthy cause. In all with the walk from/to the car park I covered 6.61km (a little over 4 miles).
I am so pleased with myself as I've been in a stress induced flare all week and have had times where I seriously doubted I'd be able to start let alone finish.
My physio has been great, encouraging and pushing me to exercise to maintain my range of movement and keep my muscles strong, only yesterday teaching me how to properly use two walking sticks to fully support my hips, knees and ankles so I would be able to get round today. She also urged me to start a three day pain relief regime yesterday which will continue through tomorrow. Thanks, Beth, you were right ... it all came together on the day :)x
My friend Linda walked with me for company and encouragement and my husband was our chauffeur, photographer and general pack-horse for everything we thought we might need but couldn't carry ourselves.
I am feeling seriously great. Tired and aching but mentally amazing.
For today the score is Jules 1 / PsA 0.
Here is a pic of us with our medals at the finishing line ... I'm in pink no. 237.

Your friend Marianne would have been touched by your thoughtfulness and your friends here are impressed with your determination.
But the score … I think you should make that Jules 5000 (metres, and the inspiration for the rest of us … priceless!
Other than my right hip which is a bit more uncomfy this morning, I'm no worse than I've been all week so I think that is a 'result'. It didn't help me sleep any better which is a shame so it might be amitriptylene tonight.
Feeling much more positive and encouraged to keep pushing myself just a little bit beyond my comfort zone.
It certainly is, Stoney. Slightly tainted this afternoon as I've come down with the head cold my husband brought home from his business trip last week. He forgot his cold and flu nasal spray for the aeroplane so predictably he caught something (he's on azothiaprine for Crohn's so also needs to be 'careful'). Can't really complain, though, this will only be my second cold since being on Simponi and it should all be cleared up before my next injection is due on June 1st, fingers crossed.
Congratulations Jules! What a way to blow off some self induced stress!! Its so wonderful to hear you’re doing well after pushing your limits like that. Stories like this are the reason I joined this site! Not only did you managed to honor your dear friend you also managed to be an inspiration to us. Kudos!
Thanks Rachael and Cheryl. Other than the head-cold I'm still feeling good ..... and determined to get back into the habit of more regular walking now I've got my confidence back.
