Let's welcome Kim2 from San Diego

A lot of people who join here say very little on their profile. As a moderator, I find that really frustrating: we love getting to know our newbies! But every once in a while a new member does a profile which speaks volumes. It tells a story that so many of us can relate to. It feels like they are friends already!

When I read @Kim2 's profile story, I shook my head. Sigh, sounds sooo familiar. Have a look for yourself: you can find it here. This is the path so many of us have walked, with its twists and turns and ruts.

Kim, you mention depression. We’ve talked a lot about that here. Of course your doctors are going to ignore what you say: your brain is not their department. But it is very much a part of this disease. Ask your primary caregiver about some treatment: coping with what you are going through is hard enough, without trying to do it with a brain that that is depressed.

So Kim2, a warm welcome to you! I’m sure that you will find lots of good company and good advice here. Have you had a look at our Newbie’s Guide yet?

Welcome Kim2. I’m a newbie as well to this sight. Unfortunately not to the disease. I agree with Seenie, we all need help not to get down, though it’s going to happen. I just acknowledge it, give myself some slack and then try to look at the good stuff I hv going on in my life. I did use anti depressants when I was first diagnosed- they helped me finally get some sleep and took the edge off while I was getting my body stable. After a while I was able to cope without them.

Welcome Kim2. You’ve come to the right place in my view. These guys truly helped me when I was a newbie about a year and a half ago. I came here resembling a hissing, spitting cat frankly. But I learnt huge amounts about this disease here, why it’s so hard (or rather that is so hard) why the meds are so unpredictable, how to live with it without thinking my life is over etc. And most of all these guys just made me laugh, feel infinitely less isolated and geniunely helped me look to the future with a lot more positivity.
