I started taking Nuvigil 50 mg, twice a day over a week ago and it made me so nauseous I could barely function. So, I stopped taking it yesterday and still had a full day of nausea. This morning I don't feel nauseous. However, the NuvigilhelpedIMMENSELY with my fatigue. I felt normal again - didn't feel drugged when I woke in the morning and had normal energy throughout the day. I really thought I had found the answer to my fatigue problem.
My GP prescribed the med after discussing options with my rheumy. I'm going to try to find a neurologist that prescribes Nuvigil often and hopefully can help me with suggestions on how to get my body to tolerate the med.
I found a site that is one of those “Ask the Doc” forums. This doc provides a response to a patient with the same problems you are having with Nuvigil. I took a screen shot of it and attached it here. I hope,it comes up. 264-image.jpg (388 KB)
Anyway, this docs response was what I was thinking too, so he must be smart!
I am thinking some Zofran might be just what the doctor ordered, and he shouldn’t be at all surprised that you are coming to him about this. Nausea is , apparently, very common with Nuvigil. On the bright side, it usually subsides. Hopefully, you can get some Zofran to get you through that adjustment period, and won’t need it later. It’s not a guarantee though and you may have to keep taking Zofan. I don’t recommend Phenergen, like this post does, especially since you are taking the Nuvigil for fatigue. Phenergen can a really knock you out.
I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU GOT A BREAK! I knew you had to be feeling better, since you weren’t here.
Thanks GrumpyCat. I actually was taking Zofran with the Nuvigil and it didn't help. Zofran hasn't helped me when I've been nauseous previously.

There are other antiemetics available: Reglan, Dexilant, Phenergen (May be worth a try. It might not make you tweepy), meclizine, and about 15 more. Don’t stop looking for something that helps you take what makes you feel normal.
Thanks GrumpyCat. The only nausea medicine I knew about was phenegran and zofran - thanks for the list of other nausea meds.
I saw my GP yesterday and we discussed options. Because the Nuvigil was working so well except for the nausea, we decided to try this plan: take 25 mg a day for one week and take 150 mg Zantac twice a day. Then add 25 mg a week to see if I can tolerate it. (I was taking 100 mg a day which is a low dose). And I did get a prescription for phenegran although I can only take it at night because it makes me sleepy. Does Reglan ,Dexilant or meclizine make you sleepy?
My GP said if that doesn't work she will make an appeal to the insurance company for Provigil - which they previously denied. However, I don't know if Provigil will also make me nauseous.
I have the meclizine before, and I don't remember that making me sleepy. With the Reglan and the Dexilant, I have no personal experience, but have given them both to plenty of patience and none have indicated any increased sleepiness. I think that drowsiness is a side effect of a lot of the antinausea medications, so you may have to try different wines to see which one is the best fit for you. Phenergan is by far the worst for the sleepiness side effect.
Yay ! Great News !I've successful taking Nuvigil now with no nausea and I feel normal again ! I'm sooo happy. This med has increased my quality of life immensely !
I'm now able to take Nuvigil with no nausea ! My original does was 2 each 50 mg per day. So I met with my GP and we worked out plan: 25 mg per for 2 weeks and than increase by 25mg every 2 weeks. Now I'm at 100 mg and think I could use a little more. Alll my research indicates that 150 mg seems to be the standard dose.
Provigil and Nuvigiil are made by the same company for narcolepsy and shift work disorder. The patent ran out on Provigil, so the company tweaked it and got a new patent on Nuvigil. Orginally Carefirst denied Provigil for me then unexpectedly approved Nuvigil for me even though according to their coverage I don't qualify for it??? I order it through the Carefist mail pharmacy program. I think Nuvigil worked out a deal with them. If I couldn't get it through insurance I was going to ask for "compassionate care" asistance through the drug company.;
