Specialty/Mail Order Pharmacy

I got lucky. I was told by the specialty pharmacy that I HAD to get my rx for Humira filled with them, but when I got my refill after 3 months, my doc sent it to my usual brick and mortar pharmacy (I think this was and accident), and they filled the danged thing! I was charged the same amount, AND then they accepted my copay assistance card, which the specialty pharmacy would not take. Dropped my copy by $40. When I switched from the pens to the prefilled, I had no problems with that, just needed the preauth and that was it.

Maybe your doc can give you a paper rx, a preauth and you can walk into your local CVS, Walgreens,or wherever and see what happens. It would be worth the effort if you didn’t have to deal with this mess monthly.

Hi Grumpy,

the doc sent the pre-auth through for the syringes (would have been so much easier if this piece of information had been conveyed to me on day one) and I'm now to the point where they will allow 3 month-at-a-time deliveries. So, when this order goes through I won't have to deal with any of this BS until the end of June. Fingers crossed!

Now that I have broken up with Humira, this is one thing that won't be causing me stress....at least for a little while. As much of a hassle it was to drive for two hours round trip and sit in the office for another hour or so for an infusion, it was nothing compared to the madness of coordinating medication deliveries with the specialty pharmacy !

Well praise the saints, Mother Nature and Neptune, I FINALLY got my three-month supply of Humira pre-filled syringes (not pens) via Fed Ex this morning. It only took from my doctor appointment on February 14th until Friday last week to get an existing and current prescription figured out. Maybe there's hope for Congress yet.

That might be a little too optimistic, but I'm thrilled you got a three month supply. Better start working on the next shipment in six weeks or so.

Every forum I look at has had threads, sometimes multiples, about specialty pharmacies. I have my horror stories, and it seems like a high percentage of others do, too.

Good news Jane, at last!!
