Rheumy apt today with usual rheumatologist.. 5 mins and outta there!

Hi guys,
This is the reason I am going to see a new rheumy, closer to home who has a good reputation and was organised by my boss - a radiologist who called her on my behalf and got me an apt 4th December while everyone else has to wait until march 2014!!! I consider myself extremely lucky to work in the system!!..

I saw my usual rheumy at 2:30 today and was walking out and paid for my visit by 2:39… I spent all of 5 mins talking to her (if that) and she never touched me or asked if I needed to ask her any questions - no time for small talk in and out…

She increased my sulfasalazine from 2 per day to 4 per day, 1000mg to 2000mg… Still on 7.5mg Mtx and folic acid daily except Mtx day. After one week I increase to 5 sulfasalazine daily, and then 6 the following week. If still no improvement she is going to switch me to Mtx injections as the tablets give me nausea, that way I can increase the dose…

Why didn’t she offer me the injections earlier when I was spewing my guts up?? Instead of just taking me off it cold turkey with no offer of an alternative. I told her I’m going to a new rheumatologist and asked for copies of all my tests and her records to take to my new rheumy. She asked who I was going to see and she said she is lovely and a fantastic doctor! My rheumy and I just don’t click and I feel like she doesn’t like me - I wonder what I said to make her dislike me… Anyway, it’s time to move on…

Kindof nice that she had kind words for the doctor that you are switching to. I've gone through phases where I'm not too thrilled with my rheumy. But her treatment of me has always been appropriate, she is hands on, so I stick with her.

I agree stoney that it was nice of her to back my choice in new rheumy… She is just a bit hot and cold and I haven’t always agreed with her choices but she’s the specialist, not me… I’m going to see if I like this new rheumy and if I do I will stick with her - I just need someone I can trust. My gynaecologist who did my endometriosis surgery last year is a very odd, eccentric guy but he is a fantastic surgeon so I stick with him because I believe he is the best surgeon, even though his bedside manner needs work. As a medical professional myself I guess I have certain expectations And my current rheumy just doesn’t live up to them. I want someone who can back themselves and show logical reasoning for their actions.
