Pneumonia and ready to stop methotrexate

Here's my two cents: I've never been on MTX because both Rheumatologists I've had said it's not really effective for PsA. Personally, I've never researched it and don't really know anything about it. But that's what the docs said.

Very frightening!!!

Hi,RUsty, what has someone said here, fear the disease more!....I will do what i can to NOT be in a wheelchair, or have deformities . Please remember all medicines have side effects...take care!

Ya know, theres pages after pages about this on the internet search. You got to know that big studies were done on the biologics by big Pharma. And not a lot of studies on a cheap medicine as mtx........Thats the KEY word, not enough studies.

There were studies done on Mtx and RA. And skin docs and rheummies have differing opinions

Mr.Menter in this article, has stated , mtx used for 30 yrs.

I also read some thing about mtx used for the skin involvement aspect of PSA. This is something, thats up to the doctos, and one might have to try several meds, to get an improvement from pain and inflammation. As we all know, each person responds differantly to meds, there is no cure, and no one size fit for it with meds

Mease: Much less is known about this point in PsA, compared with what we know in RA. There has been no head to head trial of methotrexate versus anti-TNF, and methotrexate has been inadequately studied in PsA. What we do know is that in patients responding inadequately to methotrexate, addition of anti-TNF medication significantly improves signs and symptoms and in the one trial with radiologic results, the etanercept group experienced a slowing or halting of radiologic progression over two years of treatment. A retrospective analysis of patients treated with methotrexate by Gladman’s group suggested that these patients progressed radiologically similar to a non-methotrexate treated matched cohort of patients with PsA, but this type of analysis is admittedly fraught with problems. More data are needed to truly know what methotrexate can accomplish in this arena.

Interesting. My doc has never considered it an alternative to my treatment. He would rather I take nothing than take MTX.

Here is another link. It appears to be recent about MTX and PSA....but again, there are not a lot of ppl in the studies. One of the authors in the study ( link below) is funded by ABBOTT, PFIZER

Also, a lot mentioned how Mtx works for PSA with skin involvement
