And to confuse you more, Petunia Girl, I have non plaque forming psoriasis. It looks like I spilled hot tea on my leg-small drop-like red areas with no plaque. Also red areas on my scalp, natal cleft and ear canals. Truly minor and don't itch as much as burn at times. Psoriasis seems to come in all colors and sizes. And my dermatologisy warned me it will appear anywhere the skin is injurned. I just thought I was slow healing....
Thank you, Michael. I'll save this info too. Certainly odd places to get psoriasis, aren't they? Especially the natal cleft and ear canals!
I also have a son and want to keep an eye on him to be sure he doesn't end up with any of this stuff.
I just found out that you can also get psoriasis on your LIPS. And in between your toes. Nice, huh?
Oh ick, I forgot the ears. I HATE it when it gets in my ears. Itches like crazy. In the winter I put vitamin E oil around the external surfaces of my ears. It does seem to help. I've learned the hard way not to put anything in the ear canal. (Sad, but true! lol At the age of 45 I got this lecture from a very exasperated ENT!)
uh oh. I use q-tips to scratch it. I may have an ENT in my future but so far no troubles!
Hi Petunia Girl. Sorry I've only just seen this today, but it sounds like you've got some great information Yes, Ps can look many different ways, even on the same body! A helpful tip: If you turn out to have ps, don't pick away at the scales as this exacerbates the lesion. Any further damage seems to ramp up the overblown immune response, and therefore will result in an even larger lesion. I also notice that if I have a cut or scrape somewhere like the knees, elbows, or scalp, that ps seems to set in on that spot. One time, my scalp was in relatively good shape so I thought I'd go get my hair colored. Instead of foils, the beautician used a cap and a pick to pull the hair through for coloring. Each area on my scalp that was "picked" ended up with ps! Get to a dermatologist so you can get a definitive dx and therefore some prescription topical treatments. The otc stuff is like air and won't do much. Blessings and hugs
Dee, hope you got my email to you!! BTW, these are GREAT tips. I'll copy and save them, and Byrd Feeder's as well.
I'm SHOCKED to hear that psoriasis can form on injuries and areas where your hair has been pulled through a cap for a dye job!!!!!! Whoa! That...stinks! (Was going to say something stronger then stopped.) You must go out of your mind with it! And how do you keep from scratching and scratching? Oh, my heart goes out to you folks!
I second the Aquaphor - I like that in the winter especially.
