Muscle Spasms while Walking?

The wine can cause dehydration which can temporarily throw off your electrolytes. That might be the cause.

I've had spasms - severe cramp - for a few years now, mostly at night. When my ESR was high they were at their worst. My ESR has been down for a few months now and the spasms have tailed off - the contrast is very marked. However, drinking more than 1 or 2 glasses of red wine always made them worse and now virtually guarantees that they'll return for a night or two. My potassium, sodium and magnesium levels have been tested and are fine. Perhaps red wine makes these substances dip temporarily?

Lol I have a pair of the big crocs in hot pink! Otherwise I wear sneakers with support most of the time. I’m scared to try the virgin Bloody Mary with pickle juice though…tomato juice isn’t so much my thing. Could be worth a shot though! I occasionally get the spasms at night but usually they only happen when I’m walking, and only in my right foot. But now the PsA is working on my left Achilles’ tendon, so lucky me!

I had to start wearing... Crocs. Ughhhhh!!!!! Lol!!! But- they have lots of cute styles and look on Brads Deals and you can sign up for the news letter and get them sooo cheap. I have adorable flats that even my college-age daughters are jealous of and cute as pie sandals. You can't even tell they are crocs. I also have a pair of what I call Smurf crocs- te big ones - in Clemson orange :-) My girls groan when I bust those out. They are so amazingly comfortable for my arthritis feet and ankles which are my trouble spot. I don't have spasms like you, though. I have terrible swelling in my ankles and feet an arches if Ido any walking or standing, even just in my house. I have wanted to try Birks but I am too poor (two kids in college...)

I want some in pink! But they are so big I can only have so much closet space. They are next on my list. I am going to make a confession here and keep in mind I am a South Carolina girl, I also have them in CAMO!! Haha. The worst part is I get tons of compliments in them  I bought them as a joke because if you’re gonna get crocs you might as well go all in, but they are actually quite cute- you can’t even see them.

One of the advantages of being snow bound in the Denver Airport is that they have a Huge Crocs outlet

Jealous

I have issues with spasms in my feet, too. It is especially painful on the tops of my feet; feels like the bones ache after walking. I always have to calculate how much walking will be involved in any event I attend. Lately, the pain has been extending to my shins and is especially bad at night after I’ve been on my feet a lot during the day. It’s ridiculous to think I used to be on my feet - literally - for 14 hours a day when I was working! Now I can’t walk two blocks without the painful spasms.

I thought I was nuts the way I would get random spasms. Glad to know it's not just me. Too bad I don't really have any solutions though...except good shoes are a must!

Red wine can also cause a histamine release, which might have something to do with it. I cannot drink even half a glass of red wine without looking like my whole face is one fire.

This makes perfect sense, thanks! I do drink a lot of water but I doubt that it's possible to completely avoid dehydration from alcohol.

Your not alone on this one! Im just recently diagnosed and my first symptoms were cramps and muscle spasms. I also thought it was water intake I eat plenty of bananas and even got a magnesium supplement but nothing works they just come and go! Rubbing alcohol is what helps me. I get them on my lower back, hips, legs, arms, feet, upper back, below ribcage and anywhere a muscle can be stretched:( So I’m sure its related to PsA

You might try a supportive stocking too. I am too stubborn and vain to do things regularly
, but I know they can help if I will just do what my doc recommends! I’m sure I’ll get there someday, but just not right now. I do wear tights, good shoes and try really hard to take good care of my legs and feet. I think that, sometimes, I go on strike and refuse to day anything else that I am supposed to!
