Low Platelets

Has anyone experienced low platelets from psa or meds? Doc is taking me off mtx and humiria this week with more blood work next week to see what is goin on. Currently on humiria every 2 weeks and 7.55 mg of mtx weekly. Was lowered to 7,5 from 15 as I had high liver enzymes; that was clearly up. But platelets steadily getting worce since August. Started on enbrel in feb then switched to humiria as platelets started to pummel, last cout they are 69,. The rhuemy and hemo will do more communicating and get bak to me
Anyone go through something similar and came out smelling like a rose?

I am on Enbrel and mtx and have not experienced that side effect but I have read about it. I am hoping it straightens out for you. I am sending you hugs and prayers.

Personally no. In the chronic pain support group I Lead, yes HOWEVER, it many of the cases it was not the MTX/Bio combo that was the cause. Simply adding a tricyclic to the mix solved the problem for them (along with better pain managment)

Here's a study: http://www.hopkinsarthritis.org/patient-corner/disease-management/managing-chronic-pain-and-depression-in-arthritis/

it takes a lot to get to the meat so here is a quote:

A biological vulnerability to affective disorder in patients with chronic pain is also supported by studies of biological markers. Decreased REM latency, decreased serum melatonin and lower density of 3H-imipramine binding sites on platelets have been found in patients with chronic pain (Blumer et al. 1982; Magni et al. 1987; von Knorring and Ekselius 1994; von Knorring et al. 1983).

Seratonin which controls pain is stored in your Platelets so it really becomes a viscous circle. In any event ASK your doc. The anagelsic effect of nortriptoline (and others) is well known for arthritis pain.

Anyway it has worked for some.

Thanks Lamb, I appreciate the info very much.

I emailed doc today and will see what she says. I will update when i find out.

I do not like to think about chronic pain, but it is. Though have had more pain lately as it is my extremely busy time of year for work.

I do apologize for the bad spelling and grammar of the post. I wrote it late and I was very tired. I will try to lame iPad autocorrect, but most of it was me.
