How do you know if a sore throat is warranted a doctor call?

Had this sore throat for awhile. Have always had sore throat problems even before this dreaded condition! Now with it do you call your doctor every time you have a sore throat or just when you have one with a fever.

Are you rebel Mom because you live in the south or have a motorcycle?? (I like the idea of the bike)

Anyway, the answer is depends.... If you are taking a biologic you don't ALWAYS run a fever (even when you should)

While biologics DO suppress the immune system, remember that your are suppressing it because its over active to begin with. You are establishing a new normal for yourself, your doc can help you, but usually you don't need to freak over every bug that bites you (so to speak) statistically anyway we don't get sicker anymore often than anyone else. (maybe because we get careful who knows) Anyway a phone call to your doc is free. Something free from the medical profession doesn't come along every day.....

I live in the south. I really appreciate your help. I was officially diagonsed last week but have been ill since Feburary. I have been on mtx for 10 weeks now and the rhumey sent the paperwork in for the bio. I am having a hard time accepting this new condition. Last year I was running around, driving, etc but now I can barely move around with limited driving because of my hands. I am missing out on some of my kids events because of the discomfort. I really need something positive right now for all I see is nothing positive.

As for the throat, i will call the dr tomorrow.

Rebel mom, I am so sorry you are dealing with this right now. I know missing out on kids' acitivities is heartbreaking. I think my diagnosis hasn't really sunk in for me yet. I was diagnosed less than a month ago. Hang in there. Mtx didn't prevent the Psa, but after taking it again (I'd forgotten to refill the prescription) my symptoms improved. The meloxicam is helping a lot too and it's so much cheaper than Celebrex. I'm so glad you found this group. I am a newbie here as well. Hang in there Rebel.

I don't know. Open your mouth wide and let me see...

My rule of thumb: after a week, I visit a doc. I once had staph (yes, staph!) in my throat and almost died. Never mess up with it.

How low can you get going south? Does Puerto Rico, USA count?

Hang on, better days are coming. Not every day will be the same. What helps to keep me positive is to count my blessings. There is always something we can be glad of. Seen the children's movie "Polyanna"? It's an old Dysney movie you can watch with your kids.

After getting sick along with my kids a few months ago, I asked for the "rules" concerning being sick and taking methotrexate. My doctor told me to take the mtx unless I was running a high fever. If I was running a high fever when it was that time of the week, to skip that dose for the week.

I've been sick a few times since starting mtx. I have gone in for pink eye, and had it twice since starting the meds, and once for a sore throat. I went in because the sore throat had persisted for more than a few days, and was accompanied by a bad cough. I was put on antibiotics, and recovered nicely.

As Gelita pointed out, it's never a bad idea to call the doctor.
