I am one who thinks that perhaps certain things can trigger autoimmune diseases…
My question is has anyone here had a bad case of H-pylori to the extent of causing ulcers in bowels and stomach?
I as because the start of my pain happened simultaneously with this about 4 years ago, my doctors have all said its not related but to me seems really odd. So I thought I would ask if others had this happen too…
Hi Moondancer, the best brains in the business (see book in book reviews) say in Chapter 4 "There are genetic, environmental and immunological factors involved in the onset and progression of PsA." These authors specifically say that physical trauma, stress, vaccination and viral infection have been associated with onset of PsA but studies to identify all such environmental factors have not yet been done.
So, yes, you may well be on to something. But we also say here 'association is not necessarily causation'.
Mine seemed to start flaring when I went through menopause. I've also wondered if vaccinations could be a culprit. I know their benefits outweigh the risks usually, but it would be interesting to know if those of us who are already predisposed to an autoimmune disorder would be better off not getting the immunizations.
Hi Moondancer, I believe that there seems to be growing evidence that certain genetics predispose us, but it often on sets in response to a trigger - strep used to be thought to be important, though it seems that is old news now, and perhaps not so significant/ relevant. Mine was coincident with a number of suspects; pregnancy, a change to almost no sun 5 days a week for about a year, extraordinarily high levels of stress, and the week of severe onset, a very sore throat (minor symptoms two years before). I guess I’ll never know which one, if any, it was, because it’s just as likely it was something I missed!
