Gratitude Made Easy

I think most of you realize that I've got a pretty good sense of humor and I am not all that good at being politically correct. I tend to roll my eyes at a lot of things and I don't really believe that positive thinking has any particular power. That said, I am grateful to be alive and for the many things my life offers me on a daily basis. I know that I have worked hard to get where I am and I know that a whole lot of other forces (chemical and alchemical) had parts to play in my existence. And while I do not understand most things around me, for example: my cat, other people, chemistry, astronomy (well, most sciences, really), how to play video games or fat free cool whip, I am positively happy to be alive. I find it difficult to know how or to whom to offer thanks for life without sounding stuffy or weird. But I came across a "blessing" the other day that I can get behind. It rather simply captures my sense of what gratitude truly means. I submit it, here, for your enjoyment.

Let us rise up and be thankful,
for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little,
and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick,
and if we got sick, at least we didn't die;
so let us all be thankful.
