I am 33 years old, and am starting to family plan. I am taking leflunomide and is somewhat working for me with no big side effects. However I know you have to get off and take another medication to get it out of your system before you even try to get preggers. I have an apt in Aprl and am considering getting off it and switching to humira or a bio med that is safe. I am not sure I should go off lefl now since i don’t plan on getting pregnant now but within the next year.
I am curious to know if anyone has had a simalar debate or had any issues with getting of Lefl and getting Pregnant?
I was told big no no on any of the meds that actually do anything for us! I just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant, and have been off everything but prednisone tapers since over a year ago. The flares are horrible and trying to manage them are brutal, but I was told that you could be on prednisone for the entire pregnancy, so I’m hopeful for some relief soon! I see my rheum in two weeks, we will see what she says now hat I am actually pregnant! Good luck with everything!!! Let me know if you hear anything different on the meds. I was on Cosentyx before I decided to start tying and was told to come off any bios immediately!
Also, I’m 34, and been diagnosed since 22!
I know that bios are used with crohns and uc during pregnancy to keep them under control. It’s a question of balancing the risks of the disease with the risks of the meds. And some doctors are more risk adverse regarding meds than others. Leflunomide and methotrexate are very clear no’s. But the bios not as clear.
Same around 22 years old for me too. Such a pain inthe ass this disease is
As far as I know leflunomide stays in your system for around 2 years once you stop taking it. You can go through a wash out I believe which might speed things up. But certainly you should not get pregnant until you’re absolutely sure it’s out of your system.
