Hi guys,
I’ve lived many years with this blinking illness and am only now beginning to accept that I am even sick at all. I’ve had all sorts of diagnosis along the way from lupus, Sjogrens and stress, but all along in my heart of hearts I know the PSa is what is going on. I’ve had serious flares in the past but for the most part I’m okay. I am currently in a flare following a long flu a few months ago and have gradually become worse and worse. I’m now having to take time off work and was commenced on prednisone 30 mg 8 days ago. It helped initially and then it all started to flare up again yesterday despite steroids, I’m now on 40mg prednisone per day and not too happy at all. Foggy, fatigued and still in pain with some general joint pain and swollen fingers etc. Yuch!!!. I had been discharged from rhumatology as I felt quite well for a number of years and thought I was cured LOL. Now here I am. I have been referred back to ruhumatologist and will be attending in August so my GP does not want to start any other treatment just yet but wants to focus on getting the flare under control.
I guess I just don’t know why I’m getting ongoing flare on steroids. If anyone has any advice, would love to hear from you.
Blessings to you all
Kath
Generally a flare on steroids is NOT PsA related but following your flu, there is likley some infection rearing its ugly head somewhere. Most likley is lung or UTI. A big flare when something else is going on is not unusual.
My grandaughter is a prime example. She has been fighting a flare for sometime (knees and hips primarily), the Rheumie finally did an extensive set of cultures and found an obscure bladder infection. 2 days of Cipro has the flare totally under control. She went running with me this morning.
Hi tntlamb
Thank you for your advice. Contacted my doctor and he started me on a course of augmentin. It worked a treat!!! and my inflammation is well down and I am now almost completely pain free. He has also suggest that I begin to drop my steroids by 5mg every two days. I’m delighted as I was beginning to get moon face.
Many thanks again.
