I am 26 years old adding embrel to my already highest dose methatrexate…anyone care to share the good, the bad or the ugly of this mixture?
Welcome becci! I am on Enbrel and mtx. I have no side effects with the Enbrel. With mtx I feel like I have a bit of a hangover feeling for a few days. When I first added mtx to the biologics (I think I was on Symponi then- I have been on all the biologics except Remicade- I will probably start that in January) I would get more flu like symptoms. I also get appetite supression for a day or two. Other people on here may be able to give you more information. Also look at old posts there is a lot of information there. I am very poorly controlled PsA so your effect may be very different than mine. I went at least 30 years before diagnosis and it has been very hard to slow in me. Then I don't think the Enbrel will really have any s/e for you. I have found with the biologics they only work for a while and then peter out for me. I have a feeling that since this disease is due to an overactive immune system that we build some sort of antibodies to the biologics over time. I am old nurse and this makes sense to me though others here may be able to explain it better. I uses the auto injector with the Enbrel and inject in my tummy. I added Enbrel to pre-existing MTX, with spectacular effect, and have dropped MTX with only minor (to me) loss of effect, mind you at the same time I’ve been weaning off steroids… So it’s still not clear if the loss of effect had anything to do with removing MTX, or was just steroid weaning.
