Why is it so hard to accept advice?

I think its good that you are reflecting on what they have told you. Its always good to take a step back and re-evaluate things but at the end of it all you are still the one that knows yourself the best. Try not to think of it as accepting or taking their advice but as you making your own decision for what would help you the most. I can share that I got the stomach flu last week and was forced to stay home. Although it wasnt related to my PsA staying home made my joints feel so much better it was incredible. It made me wonder about the toll that waking up early and commuting and working all day really takes on my PsA.

BTW whats a cuppa? is it sorta like a Tom & Jerry (my favorite cup o' cheer this time of year)

A ‘cuppa’ is the slang for a traditonal british cup of tea, but often used as ‘you fancy coming round for a cuppa’ meaning any hot drink and a chat …personally I prefer coffee, black and strong

You’re so right XvaneX, when off work my condition improves that’s why I spread my annual leave throughout the year to give me little rests.
Reflection can only be good, clear you mind and work through what’s what

Michael that’s a good idea! I’ll post his programme for me but it will be a personal one for me and my particular strengths and weaknesses. Last time I first got back in the pool he had me running in the water, using a long float to balance my self then letting my legs float up in the front then forcing them down and back. Then side to side. (good for the core muscles of the tummy and back) most of the focus is on keeping muscle tone and strengthening core muscles to support the joints, there’s always a lot of flexing and stretching too…funny thing is he doesn’t swim much cos he doesn’t float, he just sinks to the bottom lol wierd but true!

I can adjust it to me but it may give me some new ideas. I do know I do better with walking foreword and backwards. Running or any choppy movement gives me a lot of pain the next day. I use to use the floaty, or noodle under my foot and pushed down but it has irritated one tendon in my thigh. Maybe, as you say, lifting the leg and bringing it back down, without the noodle under the foot would irritate it less. I do know that walking foreword and backwards and sideways strengthen knees to prevent injury so I always do that one but I need some good ideas on core exercises. TY, M

I hold the float under my arms so its main part is across my back, get my legs floating infront of me then push them down and back so in effect I go from floating on my back to floating on my front. Side to side holding the float in the same way
For my shoulders and upper arms, sink so water is covering the top of the shoulder, the float is held in the middle, hand about waist height, elbow back not to the side, extend the arm straight down, this can be done slowly and gently (2 seconds down,2 seconds up) or pumped quickly depending on whether its for strengthening or part of cardiovascular work out. This can be done with feet on the pool floor or floating ( its hard when floating!) Another is called ‘skating’ imagine you’re one of the speed skaters, lean forward and instead of stepping forward step diagonally outwards swinging opposite arm in the same direction, again your shoulders should be under the water … Word of warning don’t do this one if you’re wearing a low cut swimsuit and are well endowed!

I get it! I went from a very active life w/ a full-time career to early retirement - i am 39.
It is very hard to take advice as we know if we do, then the deep denial that ‘nothing is really wrong’ is over and we must face reality.

However, reality is good i have come to realise. By leaving my job, learning from my partner that all the housework does not need to be done all the time and to take rests when i need to, my life is easier.

It is those that are closest to us that are able to give us the right advice - remember, our moods affect them too. What wouldyou say toyour hubby or kids if they were in your shoes.

I hope this has helped.
