Hey everyone! How are y’all? I know it’s been awhile since I’ve been snooping around here. Let me know how you’ve been.
So… I had a bad PsA flare about two weeks ago. The most constant pain I’ve been in outside of surgeries. My tendons and muscles in my legs were aggressively attacked. Things are calming down now but I am left with insomnia. I couldn’t sleep much while I was flaring because pain meds tend to keep me awake. Now I am stuck in a sleep pattern of laying awake at night with little deep sleep. Any ideas on how to break this cycle?
You can buy off the shelf anti-histamine sleep meds can’t you? In the UK they are behind the counter. I’ve always struggled with sleep. But I find a course of them every once in a while usually resets things, properly.
Otherwise, trust your body will eventually sort itself out. It takes longer but eventually it does sort itself out. The key is not to stress about it which of course is actually quite hard.
Fresh air during the day, milky warm drinks before bed, a decent book, audio if necessary (no screens especially TV) can help too. For me a really decent book with a story that transports me somewhere else is great for relaxing, giving me something else to think about besides pain or indeed worry, and sleep then comes easier.
Ditto to everything @Poo_therapy said. I can’t use antihistamines for sleep personally, but they can help others. Fresh air and exposure to the sun first thing in the morning can help out. Relaxation exercises closer to bedtime.
I also will use a THC blend pill that is designed for sleepiness. That’s maybe once or twice a month. I get out of bed and will restart later in the night. It’s too stressful staying in bed
